Hi. I am considering getting my brown hair highlighted with a lot of blonde streaks. My hair will probably turn out mostly light blonde. I have always wanted to go blonde, but I am not sure if we as nurses can have 'hip' hairstyles if you know what I mean. I once read that nurses are to keep a conservative look with basic hair color. I will be graduating before too long and don't want blonde highlighted hair to keep me from getting a job. :anbd: What do you as nurses think of highlighted hair? :rcgtku:
So long as you hair isn't hanging over your patient, and is clean..would it matter what colour it is?? The blonde highlights would be perfectly acceptable, and if you have good hair, you feel more confident, therefore you give more to the job!
Iv'e had black hair for so long, but am having it gradually stripped and highlighted...it makes me feel different, I love it! Go for it..
re; black irishwhen the spanish armada was lost some of the ships crashed on the irish shores, these men were stranded miles away from home and no hope of returning and the irish girls were very pretty nature took its course and black hair began cropping up
wow that is interesting! my family has always said that they were black irish and i never knew what was behind it other than just the dark hair (which many times has red in it too) and darker features. i have very dark brown hair with a red hue to it and i put reddish highlights in it to show the red off more. thanks that is really neat info!
I have black hair - but thanks to one of my grandmothers (she was completely and permanently grey at 16) I have a lot of greys - all I do is cover them up with a root cover - even if I pick brown though, my hair ends up with a reddish tint. Just look neat and put together. I think that's what it boils down to.
Oh yeah - and I am black Irish too - great-great-great Grandpa was listed in a Revolutionary War document as being black haired and blue eyed.
About four or five years ago I cut all my hair off and decided to go totally natural. Before that my hair ranged from pink to purple. It's now down to my waist and I broke down and went to see a stylist last year because I don't like the ashe. I'm a natural blonde. For some reason the idiot BLEACHED it even though I told her specifically not to bleach it, but to put a blue or voilet base toner on it to cut the green. It's a real mess now. I should have known better, stylists never know what to do with natural blonde hair. She also cut six inches off after I told her not to!
Stylists should know what to do with natural blonde hair. My mom is a stylist and deffinately has had to fix screw ups with this type of problem. Especially ashe based blondes. Their hair can turn green. EEEK if someone did that to me. My mom has been a stylist for over 30 years as well. So someone with lots of experience should know what to do. Good luck getting it fixed.
I am a natural blonde too as well as my mom. As we get older our hair goes dark blonde so I am highlighting my hair lighter blonde. No one would know the difference.
It always depends on the hospital's policies. For example, we are allowed to wear nail polish, but they "encourage" us not to because, when the polish chips, that's such a nice arena for bacteria to hang out. Since there was no color code listed, either, I asked if it's ok to wear black polish. The nurse education (during hospital orientation) said yes, there are no rules against it in any way, but she suggested I stop and think about what my PATIENTS would think. I'd already decided never to wear polish to work, but I wanted to ask anyway.
As for hair, the only written policy is that it be groomed (as with the rest of our body) and pulled out of the way when necessary. I wear my hair down and keep a hair tie to pull it back when I need to.
As for color... same thing: No specific policy banning certain colors, but it's more of a "what impression do you want to convey to your patients" sort of decision. When I first started, I had my hair dyed blue/black and didn't hear anything about it. I actually went back to red yesterday and got a little funk in my haircut, but I dount I'll hear about it.
In your case, blond highlights usually look tasteful, not tacky or unprofessional. Long story short, though, I'd still ask your facility...
I don't see a problem with highlights as long as they are not too chunky. My natural haircolor is a very dark ash blonde, for a while I colored my hair a medium to dark ash brown with fine to medium light blonde highlights and it actually looked good. I know it sounds nasty but I did get a lot of compliments on it. (Think of Maura Tierney from ER before her character became a Dr.) But the highlights became too expensive, so I now have a discount card at the beauty supply store and I color it myself and I save soooo much money. (It's now a light to medium ash/beige blonde.) And as long as you hairstyle does not get in your way it should be fine.
Do you mean Irish with black hair or half black and half irish? LOL
I knew that would get a question Black Irish; dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin.
