YOU'RE FIRED! Nurses Mocking Patients

It's hard to believe nurses would record themselves mocking their own patients and then post it on Tik Tok. It's not hard to believe the video went viral, receiving 100,000 views before it was taken down.

Four L&D nurses at Emory Hospital thought it would be a good idea to create an "Ick" video where they go in front of the camera in scrubs, at work, taking turns mocking patients and complaining about what annoys each of them.
One nurse made fun of a patient refusing pain medication or an epidural but then claiming she had an 8 or 9 pain level. Another nurse mocked patients who come in for an induction and then ask if they can shower and have something to eat.

Some mothers who gave birth at the hospital in Atlanta viewed the video and are shocked. Hopefully the mother who asked "How much does my baby weigh?" before the nurse had a chance to weigh the infant did not see the video of the nurse mocking the new Mom.

All four nurses were swiftly fired by Emory. Some are saying it's heartless to fire them before Christmas.....but I think Emory did the right thing.

How do you feel about this?

I think they were stupid to do this and should have been disciplined however, the author's overly dramatic use of the terms "narcissistic" "egotistical monsters" was so over the top it was hard to take anything else they wrote seriously.

I didn't read that piece....? Is it a newspaper article?

I just read the article from the link above, but I didn't get my information from that article...that's  an opinion piece from the New York Post

Yes, I am aware of that. Probably why all the histrionic language was allowed.

I would fire them too. Not necessarily for having the bad attitude about the patients, but for having the ***ing horrifically poor judgment to freaking put it on freaking Tik Tok. How stupid could you get?? I wouldn't want anyone with such poor judgment working in my unit.

That was one of my first thoughts as well. I tried, but couldn't get rid of the word "stupid" playing over and over in my head, like an earworm. I'm just astounded.

I wouldn't want to work with nurses like that. So immature. I don't see how Emory Hospital would hire that or not notice that.

It has to be immaturity.

We all gripe about patients, true, but didn't it occur to them how hurtful that would be to patients who had been on their unit and watched the video?

They definitely deserve to be fired. That is incredibly poor judgment. I hope they learn from this incident, and grow, and change.

It is not immaturity.. it is ( I wanted to say idiocy) but realized it is a perfect example of these RNs who do NOT respect the mothers/infants and really do not care about what their role is to provide health care, nor do they care anyway you describe it.  Would you want one of these RNs to assist you with your post-partum needs?  Would you feel comfortable talking to one about your fears during childbirth?
