Nurses caps!

Published

does anyone else out there have the desire to wear the old fashion nurses caps and would you dare do it??? i have always wanted to wear one...first because i earned one....2nd, because i think they look great and distinguish us from the rest of the workers.

i was told in nursing school that the reason we do not wear them anymore is because of the infection control issue, but i would really love to get one and just wear it to work once!! lol

better yet, do you know of anybody that still wears one???? i have found a place that you can buy one and am thinking of doing it just for the fun of it! anyhoo, was just a wondering about this!!!

paulette :p

I went to the Byman school for Medical Assisting in 1978 in Phoenix Az. When we graduated we had a pin and a great BIG cap.We had to wear it all through the clinicals. I felt like a fake. Then In Practical Nursing school we had another cap that we took our pictures in. Either way- I worked my but off for both and wear neither.

When I was a student, which was recently (I just graduated in August), there was one woman at the hospital who wore hers, said she'd been a nurse for tweny years and never once worked without her cap!! Personally, I wouldn't do it!!

I worked with an RN at the same hospital for 6 years. She has been a nurse for 30 or so years. She always wears her starched white uniform and cap everyday she works. I have always admired her for continuing to do that after so many years. She is well respected and admired. I could always spot her in a crowd. She is a supervisor now in a pedi hospital so she goes from floor to floor. There is never a doubt about what that uniform stands for.

I graduated from LVN school in 1978. I was ever so proud to wear my cap everyday. It became a problem when I went into peds because the top of the crib bubbles would knock it off everytime. I was a little sad when I finally put it away. After all these years, I have gone back to get my RN(8 Years ago), I have lost track of that cap. I wish I still had it for a keepsake!! :saint: :nurse: :nurse: :kiss

When they started making noises about caps here 6 or 7 years ago, one of our union reps showed up with a white baseball cap with RN embroidered on it. Last we heard of that! :roll :D :roll

Here in my hospital in the Philippines Its a must for 7-3 shift nurses to wear their caps, in fact the assistant chief nurse go to every ward and inspect if the nurses have their caps.

Ok now i can handle the baseball hat, i can pull my hair through the hole in the back of it.

And think, you could put charge stickers on the front instead of the shirt :D

I don't want to wear it on a daily basis.. But we did vote to wear them at our Pinning ceremony in December... :)

Too funny--Love that idea!!

When I became an LPN in 1990, we wore one for 'capping' and graduation and for pictures. Then,

A few years ago I worked at a nursing home in which it was mandatory that nurses wear caps. The residents voted on it in residents council because they said they had trouble telling the nurses from the other staff

DO you remember how much your cap cost from Kays???? I just saw one on Ebay that auctioned for over 5O bucks!!!

Now I really want to get one just for the shock value at work!!! Will check out the Kays cap site!!!

$50 bucks! NO WAYYYYY!!! :nono: I only paid $20 bucks for mine plus shipping and delivery. :)

We didn't get the option of wearing caps for graduation. Our caps had two versions; the dress style called "flossies" that were made of lacey stuff, and the every day one made of plain white fabric. They looked a lot like Victorian maids' caps. Very much so.
