Does anyone know where to buy a nurses' cap for Halloween? I can only find caps on X rated sites and I'd prefer to not get that junk mail.

Neither of my nursing programs had caps, but I always wanted one, and finally have it. Two years ago, I dressed as an "old fashioned" nurse for Halloween. I wore my second-hand cap, vintage white nurse dress, white hose and a cape. The pts loved it and so did I.

The "105" is cute. The "1137" is not!

LOL, that 1137 type of cap was common at many nursing schools run by catholic hospitals under the Sisters of Mercy. I think it was similar to whatever the sisters of mercy were wearing at the time.
I don't like anytime that the crown is sticking up very high below the fold back brim. Still- the Mercy style caps are a lttle approriate for halloween with that witchy point!
OP- I think Kays still likes to sell in quantity, if you can't find something there, try ebay!

I miss my cap, too. Even though it wasn't really too practical.

If you email Kay's and tell them where you went to school, they'll see if they have the template and make you one.
I still have my caps in my closet!!
I'm with PREMENRS.
I would not have gone to a school that made me wear the "1137".
While inserting a foley, cutness must be a factor!

Ah but you know they are different for each school (or at least they were in my area). Apparently people used to be able to tell what school you attended based on the cap...Is that true all over or just some strange thing a fellow nurse sold to me?

True all over. Each school had a unique design thru the 50-60's. As more schools of nursing developed, seemed designs all taken and school emblems appeared on sides of caps. Many nursing shools had stripes for their caps:red or green for first and second year; black stripe was given at graduation.
I can remember patients in the 70's tell me they didn't want such and such nurse take care of them because of cap they wore "not a good school" but allways wanted the Philadelphia General Hospital nurses: hat was oval organday with double rolls of pleats top and bottom (think two med cups with bottoms glued together squished flat). They really stood out!
One of my staff is a 50 year PGH grad --see attached picure from our 2005 Nurse Week celebration honoring her.

One of my instructors was a PGH graduate. She taught psych, and when we went to Ancora (state hosp), there was a 'take down' one day. She was really ticked that the pt. had damaged her "double frill"!
I asked her one time how she got it clean. She said there was a Chinese laundry she sent it to, and they did it, sent it back to her.
Mine was similar to 7014 or 811, but neither matches exactly. We wore a cap w/light blue facing the first year, got "capped" @ the end of that year, and wore the plain white cap the second (junior) year. Then we got a 1/4" royal blue velvet ribbon for senior year, and finally, a black ribbon @ graduation.

although we never actually wore them to work, 713 (Kay's) is the one I received at graduation - I wear it one day a year - the first day of Nurse's Week - it's odd - all of the nurses say "Oh my God, I don't miss caps at all" but all the (older) doctors say "I miss the days when you guys wore those"...........
I once lent mine to someone who played the lead in "South Pacific" - it looked awesome on her..........
someone actually asked my husband if he ever asked me to wear my cap to bed for, well , you know...............
he said "any fantasies that I might have had about 'sexy nurses' went out the window the first time my wife came home in stinky scrubs and told me in graphic terms what happened on her shift......"
did a google search re nursing caps to walk down memory lane. found more info than when i last searched for this 2001 thread started by p_rn:
