Conversion of Philippine BSN to US BSN

Published

Hi, I'm a Philippine BSN graduate, FEU batch 2008 and currently working as an ER-RN here in California. I am planning to advance my career; however, since I'm a Philippine BSN graduate, I want to know how to convert it into US BSN and what are the steps that should be taken. If anyone have done the process, I'd be very grateful if you could help me with this dilemma.

What do you mean convert? Your BSN is just as good as a US BSN because you graduated from a CHED accredited school (I assume).

Do you know where to go to have my Transcript of Record be submitted and evaluated? I'm kind of frustrated with this issue because I'm planning to get in to CRNA program, but because of my educational status, it may prevent me from being accepted to the program.

you can have your transcript evaluation in AERC. check their website http://www.aerc-eval.com/ then after your trascripts been evaluated try to apply to any UC or CSU for a graduate program. btw, what hospital are you working in?

I had a friend who was a BSN graduate from there and was missing about 3-6 classes which she had to complete before she was admitted into the MSN program. It was a pain to have them reviewed but she said it didn't take as long as she thought it was going to take. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Are you referring to masters program? Some institutions requires CGFNS-CES Full Course by course evaluation plus TOEFL. Your Phil BSN is not going to be converted to US BSN but your credentials will be evaluated and compared to a standard BSN program in the US.

Here is a site for the U.S. department of Education about evaluation of foreign credentials:

http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ous/international/usnei/us/edlite-visitus-forrecog.html

I contacted one of the agencies they listed to have a South African degree evaluated. It was relatively inexpensive and reasonably fast.

all the site recomended is correct, but it would behove you to ask your career counselor in school your enrolling so that they may direct you to their school accredited Education Eval company, they will get your credential evaluated in no time.

Like they said, you will need a couple of classes to complete US BSN before you can enroll for MSN. Classes will be mainly focused on English and Math, of some sort. Not sure how its done in civillian but in military they used NCC-NY for my credential evaluation during my recruitment, and my certificate letter says my credential is equal to Bachelor's Degree.

Good Luck

note: I am UST- Philippines BSN graduate 2004

Is AERC a recognized credential evaluator here in US? Have you done this process in that organization?

BTW, thanks for your response. :D

I'm now working in one of the Regional Medical Centers in Central CA, I was just recently hired actually. I started working in Indiana State, but the salary was too cheap so I moved to California because my aunt is a Director of Nurses in one of the nursing homes in Santa Barbara. It's a very nice and sophisticated place. However, longterm care is not my passion, so I look for New Grad or RN Residency Program from LA to Fresno. I applied to the versant program of Northridge, USC Univ Hosp; also, I tried to get in to UCLA MC, LAC USC, Huntington's, but the process is too sluggish and so I went further to Southern CA to Central. And I was lucky to this Regional Med Center.

It's really hard to get in to big hospitals in LA, and because I'm a foreign grad. I was not accepted to any of the versant program due to the same reason and that the program is deviced for US grad or so I was told. I feel bad about it and it flagged my self esteem. But, God is too good to doubt. :yeah:

That's awesome! How did you contact the NCC NY? Is that Nassau Community Collge, NY? I want to hear from you since you've done it already. As of now, I'm getting my experience in critical care, because I need to accumulate a certain amount of hours to be accepted to the aforementioned program. But, I want to have a peace of mind with my BSN already, so if mandated to take certain classes, I can do it by now since I only work 3 days per week.

My Army Recruiter at NY did that for me. The best option you have is to talk to your career/guidance counselor at the school you are trying to get your MSN, to give you details on how to do it. All I did was bring in Original copies of Transcript, Diploma, Graduation Certificate Letter and official reciepts from UST to my Military Recruitment Office then they brought it to NCC-NY and got it evaluated, got it back in 3 days. you will probably need the same documents so be ready to have them handy at all time. And yes that is Nassau Community College NY.

Best of luck.
