Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
Mine is very similar. It is a graduate-entry program, so no one has a degree in nursing but after 3 years we will be MSN-NPs. We are in the first funding preference, I asked like four times over the phone. This is because we have been accepted into a program where when we finish we will be NPs, therefore qualifying us for first funding.
Yes I applied. My track is weird I'm doing a MSN-NP program for non nursing majors. The board for the scholarship said it was 3rd preference but not sure they know what they are talking about.

Hello all,
I just wanted to post some vital dates regarding credit checks and award email notifications based on last year's forum. These dates have appeared to remain rather consistent in the past years. So they may be helpful for us to know as well.
In last year's forum:
Credit Checks:
7/28/15 1st NP student to post that she received a credit check (appearing as CREDCO on their report)
7/29/15 NP student gets a credit check (appearing as HRSA/CREDCO). Application status on the portal still stated "under review")
As I kept reading, a BSN student posted that she was using credit karma and although she got a credit check on 7/29/15 (from CREDCO), it did not update on credit karma until 8/4/15. So my suggestion is to also check myannuacreditreport.com. But this was the only case I saw.
7/30/15 More posts confirming credit checks from both BSN and NP students
Awards:
8/3/15 3 NP students posted that they had received the award email, after 5pm. They were in the direct entry program but had completed their RN portion of the program.
Again on this date, a BSN student posted that she received the award email at 6pmEST
8/4/15 A BSN student, a 3rd semester ADN student and an Accelerated BSN student posted that they had received the award email.
***For all those who received the award email, the status on the portal changed from "under review" to "finalist"
8/5/15 A BSN student posted that she received the award email. She reported that a credit check was not done
I am only posting the initial dates of when credit checks were first noticed and when award emails were first sent out in last year's forum. But as I kept reading, it was long drag going on through September, with some people receiving credit checks but no awards. But all in all, it appears that credit checks are a good determinant that you are being considered for the award. Someone posted that when she called HRSA last year, she was informed that they go down the list based on the highest ranking scores to the lowest.
Gosh, how intense?! I'm wishing all of us good luck! Please keep us posted if you get any updates.
Go to the website they have a 65+page packet on all the detail. You need to be in a nursing program or show proof that you have been accepted into a nursing program to apply. 2017 applications are not even available yet. You can sign up to be on the e mail list and they will notify you when new applications are being accepted. There is a lot to the application from what I can tell.
