Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
As long as you submit your documentation on time you are good. That is a legal disclaimer. Also, as long as you still qualify based on your application. If you changed schools or from full time to part time or something of that nature it can possibly disqualify you. The award is contingent on the application that was submitted if it changed it could be a problem. That is why we have to submit the second enrollment form. I called this morning to ask some questions about this.
So #1. Docs in on time. #2 no major changes to application info. =Should be good.
I submitted all my stuff I'm just wondering how long it will take to get it countersigned! Also, I live in OH for those wondering. Last name starts with B.
Hey there baby_goat and Midwivesforall, Congrats on getting both Nurse corps and NHSC and for making your decision! Quick question. I also received finalist award emails for both Nurse Corps and NHSC and am wondering what pulled you toward NHSC over Nurse Corps other than less tax burden. I have been researching potential job opportunities for both and have noticed that Nurse Corps has a minimum required HPSA score of 14 (meaning more site may qualify = potentially more job opportunities) whereas NHSC currently has a minimum score of 17 (limiting sites that could qualify = potentially harder to find a job). When I spoke with Nurse Corps today they said the finalist email pretty much means you get the award, you just need to wait a week or two to get your contract countersigned. However, when I spoke with NHSC they said that they will need to re-review the application and I will be under consideration for a final award and it is not guaranteed. So yea, any helpful insights on why you chose one over the other would be greatly appreciated since the Nurse Corps deadline is quickly approaching!
I'm interested to know people's thoughts on this too.
I applied to both (havent heard from either) but with the reading that I have done of the requirements etc...I was leaning more toward the nurse corp because.....the NHSC can change the game on you. The scores on the facilities that you must work in can change and you will have to abide by the scores they require WHEN YOU GRADUATE...NOT WHEN YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT. Thats kinda scary to me that they can change the game on you. I have seen a lot of MDs on the boards have to relocate. Not all by any means but a lot. The tax thing is nice with NHSC but I think finding a job would be less stressful with NC.
I don't think it has anything to do with name or location, rather the ranking based on one's total scores. But then again, this is anecdotal. Below is the scoring for RN applicants. Difference for NP applicants scoring is 30points for CV & 5 points for transcript...everything else is scored the same. When I read last year's forum, someone was informed that they go down the list, based on the tier and in descending order of the total scores. So the applicants in the first tier with high scores get the awards first etc...keep the faith alive!

I keep checking credit karma for inquiries and nothing yet. I thought I did really well on my essays and I saw my letters of recommendation and my GPA is a 4.0 for the ncsp. My nursing school is so expensive I start orientation on Monday I just want to know already! My name is erica Lucas if the letters of name mean anything... does anyone know if you get notified as NOT getting awarded? And who is the email from that have gotten it already so I can keep a good look out for it?

Ive been following this thread for a while. Thanks for the encouragement. I have not gotten a credit check nor an email, but I am going to remain hopeful. Congrats to every who has received an award and keep pushing for those who have not. I am praying for us all.
