Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
Need advice!!!
I was offered the scholarship and have submitted my paperwork. It is currently in final review, so not yet official. I recently looked up HPSA sites around my location and there are a few. However, I would like to specialize in Labor and Delivery or ICU and I'm not sure if that is possible at the sites I have found. Does anyone know of any approved sites for L&D or ICU?
I will be receiving one year of funding and my tuition is about 8 K and have few bills to pay.
If you guys don't mind sharing, how much is your tuition, other financial obligations, and how many years of funding will you receive?
What do you think of the situation? I could accept the scholarship and serve for 2 years and pursue the speciality I am interested in later or I could decline and pursue the speciality I want after I graduate. I am willing to move in either scenario. First scenario I would graduate with 0 debt. Second scenario I would graduate with about 13K debt.
Thank you in advance for the advice and I am extremely grateful for the scholarship.
My asn program is about 40k total so I would take the scholarship but for only 13k that's not bad.50 to 100 dollars a month as just another bill will pay that off without any backlash on credit. Are you doing ncsp? It's up to you but I had the same concerns working where I wanted is going to be my positive if I don't get awarded but I'm still waiting!

Thanks for the quick reply!!! Yes, I was awarded the NCSP. I did turn in my paperwork because I was informed the if I did not turn in the forms by the deadline my offer would be rescinded. I am going to do some more research and will decide by Monday.
Goodluck and I hope you hear from them soon!
