After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
Hi all! Just thought I'd post too after lurking for a while and also binge-reading last year's thread! I'm applying for a distance-NP program. Also just saw that my credit was checked July 15 (credco), for whatever that's worth!
My stats - GPA 3.7 for BSN, previous MPH and international/community health work experience, but not a lot of experience as a nurse.
I just called HRSA and the gentleman I spoke with states that all applicants go through credit checks and that having your credit check does not determine rather you get the scholarship or not. Hopefully what he stated is correct but I'm bummed because I still have not had a credit check as of yet and I have called CREDCO í ½í¸¢
Last year someone posted that credit checks happen for potential finalists. I think there are so many conflicting stories it's hard to tell, but don't get discouraged there is still lots of time!
my biggest question is this - do the credit checks mean we will be awarded unless there is a problem with a default? it seemed that way from what I saw on the old forum, but someone said they had seen something where people had gotten the credit check but never got an award.
Most of the people that got checks on last year's seemed to have gotten an award email about a week later. I don't know if that is the usual situation. I sure hope so!!!
I read the whole forum from last year and it stressed me out even more. I check my credit report, this forum, last years forum, even the web site in the mornings and at night. I'm going crazy over here
Hi everyone! I have been reading this forum and last year's forum like crazy as well! I did receive a credit check on 7/15 but am still stressed out as to when/if we will receive emails about the awards. So much anxiety!
My application still says "under review." Are we assuming they are going to contact credit check people a week from the checks? so 7/15 should be by this Friday??? Or maybe next Monday? Or am I living in a dream world?
