After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
I am definitely not an expert on this but from what I understand, people from previous years say approx a week from the date of of the credit check they received their award letter via email. If that is the case I think Friday would be the day! I'm trying not to obsessively check until then but I can't help it.
I don't think there is an exact science. Last year a large majority of the people who got credit checks, received an award letter the next week. I am certainly hoping that will repeat this year!
Hi everyone! I have been reading this forum and last year's forum like crazy as well! I did receive a credit check on 7/15 but am still stressed out as to when/if we will receive emails about the awards. So much anxiety!
I didn't feel any anxiety until today, it just hit me like a ton of bricks actually. I'm trying to read a book and binge watch Netflix to keep my mind off of it. It's only a couple more days but I can't believe how difficult the waiting has become!
I have been trying to do the same thing to keep my mind off of it! So hard! I called HRSA and they told me earlier that there were some people that had received their award emails but I haven't seen in any blogs anyone say that they have gotten their's yet. I'm hoping we start hearing soon
I just wanted to add that I was one of the people who did not put their last name and application number on the top of each document, and I received a credit check 7/15 just wanted to put any minds at ease that may have been worried about the name/ number on top of every document like I was - I thought for sure that would have disqualified me but I'm assuming it didn't [emoji16]
I received a credit check from CREDCO on June 14th, and the US department of Education on July 7th. :/ I don't know if that takes me out of the running since my credit check was done in June. The US department of education's hard inquiry is probably from the loans I have agreed to take out for the fall semester in my DNP program as I can't take any chances and need something just in case this scholarship doesn't go through. I am still hopeful and hope we hear soon from everyone that receives a award!
You had a CREDCO inquiry on Jun 14th? The deadline for applications to be done being reviewed was July 5th. I haven't heard of them doing credit checks before the application review deadline. Did you apply for other HRSA funding? Like the loan repayment program?
I also had a credit check from CREDCO on June 14th, and US Department of Education on June 27th (I assume this is for student loans). I am also wondering if the CREDCO check was done in reference to my NHSC scholarship application, not my NURSE Corps scholarship application...
-Emily, Yes I doubled checked and it appears my CREDCO inquiry was from June 14th. :/ I also applied to the National Health Service Corps scholarship program for 2016-2017. So it could be possible I may receive funding from that program. Under both my applications in the HRSA applicant portal they both say under review.
