2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Published

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

If you don’t get the reward- do you find out why?

i didn’t get a notice either way- just wondering

I don’t believe they say why not. But try not to fret yet, I believe awards keep going out to at least some degree up until closer to the end in past years if I remember.

Have you been a finalist the past two years and not gotten it? Im curious as to how many finalist don’t actually get awarded? I just got a finalist email today and the wait is now killing me ?

No, I’ve mysteriously never been a finalist despite my always being Tier 1.

so has anyone got notification for the nhsc loan repayment or rural community loan repayment?

FNP here; working for an IHS facility in NM, HPSA is 17 for primary care, 18 mental health. My DTI is >250%.

I applied for NHSC, Nurse Corps LRP, and Rural Community. My 2019 has gone as follows:

Received finalist notification for NHSC way back in March or April. Still had application pendings for Nurse Corps, but figured 50K tax free was a surer deal and better than no offer from nurse corps at the time. I accepted NHSC and withdrew application from nurse corps (as per the rules, accepting NHSC took me out of the running for nurse corps.) Towards the end of May, I received an email from HRSA telling me about the rural community LRP, inviting me to apply, said I could apply for both NHSC and RCLRP, that an offer for one wouldn't take me out of the running for the other. So, I scrambled to get the application done in time. Had to get my site approved, etc. Managed to get application in by July 18th for Rural Community. Shortly thereafter, my NHSC application went from 'Finalist - pending final review' to 'Under Review.' And RCLRP is still 'under review.'

I'm pretty much dying slowly; I've called HRSA about the status change and was basically told 'They're still reviewing applications.' We've got to hear something definitive soon, right?

so this was my third year applying for the nhsc and the only year i even got a credit check. Never really expected to get it because of our hpsa score which puts me in tier 2. I didn't initially apply for the RCLRP because of some of the SUD wording in the app but did find out that I was eligible and should be tier 1 because we are an RCORP Consortium member. I got the app in on the last day and a credit check two days later. Got an email from them last Friday wanting my 30 day student loan payoff amounts and that is the last I heard. I did try to call them a few days ago because I am having so much dang anxiety about the whole process but......... Still under review.......

Same here. 2nd year applying and never got finalist notification even though I’m Tier 1.

Rural Community Loan Repayment Program. Substance Use Disorder.

New program, for those of us in rural communities. Our sites have to also offer services for those with substance use disorders.

Oh ok thank you for explaining. This whole process is nerve wracking.

Losing hope. I work in the poorest county in PA. I chose to help these people. If I don’t get this I will have no choice but to go where the highest pay is- which I don’t want to do. I love my patients. This sucks

I completely understand. My debt is manageable and salary ok-ish but I still could benefit from this award. My patient population is very poor, sick, and not insured. It's hard to recruit and retain people in these rural areas. Ugh! I just wanted to say mainly, I get how you are feeling.
