Nurses New Nurse

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

Now that I slept on it, I’m kind of worried the other way, do people that normally get it only get one check? Maybe there was something wrong on my application and they are just verifying it? I really don’t understand why they would do two checks for the same application as they do them to verify your loans and a second one wouldn’t really tell them anything different...

I am losing hope ☹️

Don’t lose hope! In previous threads people had received 2 credit checks and were awarded! I honestly think if you got a 2nd one you’d be more likely to get it! I wish us all luck. Student loan debt is seriously horrible and really needs to be addressed in this country. It can keep people from owning homes, buying a car, etc ... it’s crap! Lol. Positive vibes to us all!

Yeah I had only one though. It just stinks I just gotta figure out a plan B

Welp...I haven’t gotten a second check, but I’m not sure I want two. Still praying for a miracle.

Guys I think you are all worrying way too soon. I was awarded in 2017 and complete my obligation this year. I applied for a third year (praying I get it). Nurse Corp does not move as fast as the other federal loan repayment groups. The year I was awarded a lot of people did not find out until mid to late July and even more until August. The earlier ones were still in July but early July. The purpose of the credit check is not just about your loan information. It is really about verifying you do not have any defaulted payment obligations (federal, non-federal, etc.). This is heavily discussed in the application guidance packet. Any defaulted or problematic obligations will deem you ineligible. I only got one credit check and got the award.

For those who had two credit checks - was it from the same company? Credco? Or something else? Thanks.

I received a credit check towards the last week of May. This is my second year applying, and I did not receive a check last year that I am aware of. Am anxiously awaiting any word! ?

They indeed did a credit check two days after I submitted. The NHSC SUD LRP has and abundance of funds and application the did not complete their apps was given an additional week to do so if the were still interested. My co-work was notified in April that he is a finalist.

Are you or your coworker CARN nurses? Or do you just work with the SUD population? I’m asking bc I tried to apply and it told me I wasn’t qualified as an RN? Unless I did something wrong? I work at an FQHC and I am the registered nurse and program manager for our program.

We are both just RN. No special credentials. We did call for some clarification because the application said that we needed special certification. However, The rep said we would not be tier 1since we did not have CARN or any other SUD certification. We indeed at still tier 1... I was informed last week that I am a finalist and signed the contract! My understanding is that there is a lot of funding available. Is your site registered?

Oh my goodness!!! I stopped my application because of what happened! My site is registered for NHSC approved site but I don’t know if it is registered as an SUD site. I have to wait until next year bc the application period is closed. I have emailed the person responsible for getting site approval to ensure hat I have no issues when I apply next year. I will make the phone call if I receive any “road blocks” next year. Is it too forward to ask if you received the entire amount of $75,000? If so, I understand. I just want to know what I am dealing with when I apply next year.

That sucks! Are you working in MAT or OBOT? I had 76,... in loans and the contract was for 75,000. I’m shocked someone didn’t reach out to you! I missed the deadline due to not having my birthday certificate. I got an email in May asking if I wanted to still apply. You should check to see if your site is registered and get the paper work completed. What is your site score on the NHSC LIST?
