tired of working with lazy, mouthy, not too bright co-worker! help!!!!!! she spends 7 out of her 8 hours at the desk!! how does she get away with that? makes me crazy!

Sorry to hear that. I think almost all of us have our "lazy ones". Mine, for instance (our charge RN!!), like to shop on ebay, amazon, and every other web site you can think of for almost 12 hours, or untill mgmt comes around the corner, whichever comes first. Even when help is needed on the floor. And, she refuses to take pts! I wish I knew of a way to stop it. In my case, going to the "higher ups" isn't available because they are all as tight as a knot at work and out of work! When I figure it out, I'll let you know. Any suggestions?

Ugh I have lazy coworkers as well. I have the same charge RN that refuses to takes patients, disappears off the unit for an hour at a time, reads the newspaper, drinks coffee in the lounge, and so on. All the other nurses know it but speaking up will do no good. This RN has been employed in the same position for longer than I have been a nurse. It is so frustrating yet there isn't much I can do. Just know that you are not alone!

The worst nurse I worked with knew how to brown-nose to a T. She visited the DON and schmoozed her up, as well as any other supervisor that she felt she needed to give a snow job to. Thus, she was able to sleep for a living on night shift. When she bothered to do anything it consisted of falsifying her documentation. A waste of a paycheck but every supervisor fell for her line of BS, hook, line, and sinker.

I think that in every job there will be some lazy co workers to have to deal with and no matter what job you are in they are going to be just as annoying. I myself have a co worker who is much the same, but instead of sitting at the desk for the majority of the shift this co worker of mine just disappears, i don't know where she goes to, she's always walking around the place pretending to be busy but in reality she is not. I do not know how she gets away with it either. When you need help she is never there, when it is busy she is never there, but when there is someone in charge around she's right there beside them, it's both annoying and lazy and irritates me that someone such as her gets paid the same amount of money as what i do for doing next to no work what so ever.

Wow, I work with that same nurse! When you need her in an emergency, she can never help you because, as she put it, she's always "swamped" whether she has 2 pts or 15.

Don't ya just love those brown nosers??? asskissf.gif

I don't understand how we let these nurses get away with this. But S. Gettes is so right. We will have lazy people in every job. Oh well.

I don't understand how someone can spend 7 hrs at the station. How do they give meds and do assessments, etc? I run my behind off for 8 plus hours and never find time to sit down. I don't get it.

Wow- it will come back to haunt her. No doubt something will go wrong with one of her patients due to her not paying any attention.. not charting.. whatever. It's her license she's risking. How can you know your pt's are OK if you sit at a desk the whole time?!

We have two CNAs who do anything from disappear, to do nothing even when you tell them what to do. Management won't do anything because of fear of the race/sex discrimination card. When they are working, I have to do my job plus theirs.

i had one supervisor who just watches how you stress out and get crazy handling 70 patients without offering any help so we can provide better quality care for our residents (i heard he sneaks to sleep, too --- i was always so busy to notice:uhoh3:)... on the other hand, the other supervisor i had in the same facility was so helpful and always makes sure our residents are well taken cared off.... she even helps us with our charting so we won't spend extra (unpaid) hours working :yeah:...

it is just so sad when you work with lazy and uncaring nurses (including cna's) because it is actually the patients and the residents who suffer ...

it is always good if there is some sort of co-worker performance evaluation so problems like this can be addressed.... or so at least, if they know there is something like this, they might think twice to being lazy and move their butts to do their job and also help their staff and the patients.

I know a nurse on our unit who spends so much time on the phone making booty calls I cannot for the life of me understand how he ever sees his patients. Seriously. What sucks is we and mgmt all know it, but no one does anything about it. But let me try to get away with that for one shift and I'd be fired so fast I'd have skid marks on my butt.
