Perfect! thanks everyone for all the information! I totally agree. I just I haven't had the time with 15credits in a summer term, but ill finally be done on saturday (last final) and Ill be able to do everything for nova. Ill send you a private a message on monday regarding any updates or info I may have regarding my process. Thank you a ton I totally appreciate it all the information. Also, going to talk to the CNO regarding the scholars program for spring. I will let you know how it goes. :0)

one quick question to anyone who may know..how do you know what campus you will be attending? I read some of you are going to kendall and some of you are going to the main campus in davie..is the campus you are attending located on your shark link page?? I'm so lost! I guess its because i literally have three weeks to get it all together lol..ahhh!! i paid my fees today and unfortunately the counselor wasn't there..so I have to wait to monday to see what my next step will be..also I don't know how to access the orientation page..i know the orientation is on August 30th but I don't know how to view any of the details...Plus I'm still waiting for my acceptance package..so many things to do!

This is the link for the orientation page.

NSU College of Allied Health and Nursing Orientation Information

You have to log in to your VIP page to see which campus you will be going to. It will be on the left hand side. It should say: Welcome to NSU.......campus. Let me know if the oriention link doesn't work.

When you log into the orientation website click on fortlauderdale entry level nursing on the top right hand side and you will see a checklist of the forms you need to bring on the day of orientation. I think that shoul be all of it but you can browse all the forms and print them out just in case. I have already turn some of them in. I got my shark card and parking decal. Also, make sure you start on your financial aid paperwork. Give them whatever they ask as soon as possible so you won't have any delays. Good luck.

does anyone know who to log on to there NSU webmail?

Never mind, I got it.

Hello and CONGRATS to everyone who got in! I am applying to the winter 2011 term and was wondering if the ones who just recently got in can give me a few tips on what they did for the application. How long was your essay? Also what were your gpa's? Mine is a 3.5 for the classes they ask for and a 3.23 for overall. Also for those who didnt get (keep your heads up), did they send a letter stating exactly why you did not get in? Also how long does it take to get a response from them?

THANKS and congrats again!

Hello Jennifer glad your applying. I just calculated my gpa for my prerequisties and noticed that it amounts to more than an overall of 30 credits. Consider the "natural/physical science" part: my microbiology lab was worth 2 credits instead of 1. Therefore, my microbology lab and lecture combine a total of 5 credits. Also, I took anatomy and physiology I and II which totals to 8 credits ( 3 for each lecture and 1 for each lab, 4x2=8). Online it also says to include chemistry, which adds another 4 credits ( 3 for lecture and 1 for lab). Thus, my natural/physical sciences equal 17 credits, not 12 credits as nova's prerequisites suggest. This changes my overall total to 35 credits instead of 30, did anyone else notice?

Ok. Regardless, since this became complicated I don't mind just telling you my grades. If you have questions just ask :0)

CHM1033 C BSC 2085 A BSC 2086 B MCB 2010 A

CHM 1033L A BSC 2085L A BSC 2086L A. MCB 2010L B

PSY 2010 A DEP2000 B SYG 2000 C PHI 2600 A ENC 1101 A AMH 2041 B MUH 1011 A

My essay was three pages long and I wrote it using apa format. For example, i had a cover page, I indented properly, and numbered ny pages, etc. Remember in nursing school we are always and only going to use apa format. I took Intro to Nursing at FIU so they taught us how to properly write a nursing paper. I would go to Barnes and noble and just over look how to set up your essay, it could help.

With my application I attached all my certifications and awards since I'm BLS certified. I have also received recognition at work for certain characteristics of mine. I made a copy and attached them. I currently work for Baptist and I advocate for patients, I thought the nursing committee should know. I even made a copy of my scuba diving certifications, I guess I thought it was important to display that I'm also well rounded.

If you have any questions let me know :0) hope this information was useful.

Thanks for the reply giggles01!

Well I too have lots of credits. I have taken all the sciences you mentioned above, lab and lecture. I just really hope to get in with my gpa. I just sent in my application, it was about a page and half long. I made sure to write all my community service as well as volunteer work. By the way, when do you start: in August? Anyways thanks again and keep in touch!

I have a lot of credits too (91 credits!) that why it was so hard to calculate the GPA. I have also taken Biology I and II, CHM 1045 and 1046 (My year at FIU I wanted to do pre-med, lol ). My overall GPA is 3.41. I have always been an FIU student and I had applied to Nova before and didn't get it, I got accepted on my second application. I had also applied to other schools like Barry, FIU, and UM but no one accepted me so in the meantime I decided to try to do a degree in something instead of just wasting away at my bright future scholarship and my time. Now, I'm 20 credits away from a B.A in Psychology (even though I hate psychology! lol but its the only degree that accepted the majority -36- of my credits as electives.)

Well, I had applied for the fall of 2010, but Nova takes forever to response (so have lots of patience and constantly check to make sure all of your things are in order because they will lose it) and they eventually told me I needed to deffer my application since they were was no more room in the fall term. About 3 days later, I got my email acceptance for the spring of 2011! Regardless, I'm excited that I got accepted. I kinda think its better since now I get to take this fall term off and regroup before nursing school.

I did learn that for transcripts it best to just take in them in person and give them to A.O (nursing adviser/recruiter) once I did that I never had a problem. I was told that they don't accept electronic transcripts. Make all payments with a check that allows you have that carbon copy for proof later. What I did was make them stamp my carbon copy with a "received on (date)" as well as the check I provided them with. That way they can never say "well, you haven't paid your application fee, or your still pending..." because they will do that to you and delay your entire application process. Again, this application process is very length, and emotionally draining. Try to have patience and faith or it will get the best of you. If you need other information or assistance feel free to just ask, trust me I have been in your shoes. Good luck! :D

Hi giggles,

was it hard for you to decide to major in psychology. My sister told me that I am so obsessed to get into Nova that if I don't I may have a major breakdown. I think she may be right. I'm trying to get everything together.

lol. Definitely was hard! I was actually depressed this like spring term of 2011. I was taking 5 classes and all were psychology, I hated it! but I knew I had to. I couldn't continue just wasting my time wanting around for a nursing school. Plus, I had a scholarship that was willing to pay for my education. It got to a point that I was talking sailing, scuba diving, weight training and photography at FIU as credit classes. So I looked for a major that would accept the majority of my current credits and it was only psychology. I wanted to do a BS in Biology but you needed a whole bunch of other classes: more science and none of the nursing sciences transferred, so it wasn't worth it. For example, to get accepted into FIU's psychology program you need:

  1. A.A degree or General Ed. requirements
  2. PSY 2012 Intro to psychology (nursing requirement)
  3. DEP 2000 human growth and development (nursing requirement)
  4. STA 2122 Introduction to Statistics ( nursing requirement for some school so I had this)
  5. Any of the following: BSC 2023 Human Biology, BSC1005 BSC1010/BSC1011 General Biology, BSC 2085/BSC2086 Anatomy and Physiology (nursing requirement)

Then once your in only 36 more credits till graduation with a BA in psychology. But you have a senior Lab which requires you to do field work and a research method class which is writing papers all semester. As well as Statistics II which I just took over the summer. I'm just a science person so this major was difficult for me to handle. Also, psych majors are not friendly!! lol, they are not like us, nursing majors. They don't want to help each other, they start fights in class and name call. Its horrible, so glad to take time off. My boyfriend thinks i'm quitting for not trying to finish the degree before nursing school but I'm just not interested.

I understand. I can exactly relate;however, I would hate to major in something I hate. Do you think you will ever go back to finish your psychology degree.
