NP NO Masters

Published

Hi, does anyone know of any NP certificate programs (No Masters Required) that still exist. I know they are supposed to be scarce, but some say there are still a few.

Also, do any of you know of any Post Masters NP programs, that don't have a Masters in NUSRING as a requisite.

TIA

Well I attend one here in california (Stanford pa/np program) in which you will receive cert. in PA and NP for RNs. Bad part this is the last class that will receive this due to california changing to mandatory MSN as of 2008.

UC Davis PA/NP program offers the same but they have a MSN track for those that want both now so this might be something to look at.

What is your masters degree in? Is it health care related if so you might be able to gain access to a masters degree.

www.westernu.edu they allow masters in other fields occasioanly for a most masters FNP

Problem with this is that you can't bill medicare or medicaid. You have to have an MSN and national certification to get a NPI. Not a whole lot of jobs out there if you don't have an NPI.

Wow, I didn't know that. Looks like I'll be getting an MSN after all. Any good online programs, that are not to drastic clinicals, either MSN/FNP or post MSN FNP?

I am not sure if you need a masters for a NPI. This was a requirement for a UPIN but when I completed my application I don't remember entering that data, just my state info.

You get one automatically with your UPIN. They may default it off that. Also since other insurances may not require a master's so it might not be required. I don't think they have changed the requirement to bill for medicare and medicaid though.

Why wouldn't you want a significant clinical requirement? The more clinical you have the better prepared you will be for your role as a NP.

:yeahthat:

It seems the OP is looking for the shortest/easiest/least invovled method of becoming an NP.

I took it as looking for options. Clinicals are not to skimped on though as there are minimum numbers of hours needed to sit for the certification exam. Plus, believe me, you want all the clinical time you can get. Good luck.

Vanderbilt University in Nashville has a NP program that you can finish in two years if you have a Bachelors Degree of any kind. (really scary when you think about it!)
