Nova Southeastern University Entry-Level BSN Program

Published

hello,

i have a few questions for nova southeastern university (davie, fl campus) current nursing students and alumni.

i was told that there is an interview process; i would like to know what the interview process is like?

what questions are being asked?

how you are being evaluated?

how many people are in the room?

what kind of setting/environment does it take place in?

also.. would you say this school is difficult to get accepted in? what kid of students are they looking for (academically)? any tips &/or suggestions?

xoxo

I was accepted into the Fall 2010 entry-level program in the Ft. Lauderdale campus with a 3.55 GPA and completed pre-requisite classes. I also heard there were tons of applications for this semester - more than they have ever had. Nursing has become very popular so schools are only going to be more selective as the competition keeps increasing. I have a friend that was accepted into the Nova Program about 2 years ago with a 2.7 GPA .. crazy!

very true!! but congratulations on your acceptance! :yeah:

No problem! I love this board - aside from the millions of calls to Nova, this is where I got most of my information!! It gives us an advantage over the rest, not only with knowledge but also with support ;) I will let you know if I hear anything else.

That's great congratulations!!! I'm still waiting my overall GPA is 3.4 I hope that will be ok. On my pre-requisite classes I have all A's except enc1101 that I have B. Do you know anyone else who got accepted? They

sent you an acceptance letter or an e-mail?

Vick

first i got an email with my webstar account & nova email info so that was my first clue .. then i logged on to my vip page and it said i was "congratulations on your acceptance" so i called and that's when they told me i had to wait until i received the letter in the mail. they don't like to give decision information over the phone so they'll always tell you to wait for the letter whether its a yes or a no. i received my acceptance package in the mail about a week later.

the email i received read as follows:

important message

webstar and your nsu e-mail account

webstar and your nsu e-mail account are the official means of communication for

nova southeastern university. webstar (webstar.nova.edu, "enter secure area" link)

is our web-based system that allows you to register for courses, make payments toward

your student account, request transcripts, and update your address.

some people have already received a webstar account email but only for financial aid info. when i signed on to my webstar account it allowed me to register for courses, view my student account & more. you get complete access just like you would if you were a current student.

Im really happy for u MARI7319. Im scared, I want this so bad. I messed up my GPA when I was taking organic chemistry I and II and Physics cause of personal issues. I dont have any w's and F's. Im praying that God will hear my prayers. I want this so so bad. I cry and pray everyday. My GPA for NSU general courses is 3.79 but my overall GPA for my B.S in biology 137 credits is 2.841. Im scared pls pray for me. this is my life. I really want it bad!

My best advice is to stay positive!! When you want something bad enough you eventually get it. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket - apply everywhere and accept every opportunity thats given to you!! What is your cummulative GPA, not for any specific program, just your overall? If you don't get in for Fall I suggest you take some classes to boost your GPA some even if its just a little. I heard Nova might implement the TEAS entrance exam starting next semester so that might be a plus in your case. GOOD LUCK :)

For the Biology program which I just graduated with a Bachelor of Science I have a 2.841 GPA. One of my advisor calculated my GPA for the nursing program at NSU which came up to 3.79. I have As on Human Anat I and II, computer, humanities, psy, socio, human development and I have B+'s in Micro+ lab and chemistry and one c in english,. I really hope they look at my general courses. I got ds and c- in trigonometry, organic chemistry I and II and physics thats y my degree GPA is 2.841.

I got accepted to Nova this morning. I've already been denied from three other nursing schools (one community college and two public universities) so this was a relief. However, I was accepted to the Fort Myers campus and I live in Lakeland, so I will have to find an apartment, etc etc.

Anyways, my dad thinks it's not such a good idea since Nova is pricey. He thinks that I should go to a tech school and get my LPN first and then try to get into an ADN program after. My ultimate goal is to be an ARNP so my personal feeling is that I should just bite the bullet and go to Nova. His other option is for me to retake my pre-reqs that I got C's in and then re-apply to public universities for Fall 2011. I feel kind of worried because I don't even know if I can get into other schools. It seems to be extremely competitive. I messed up my gpa doing music and nursing pre-reqs which was silly..so I feel like this is an opportunity I can't miss.

Any suggestions?

Congrats on your acceptance!!

That's a tough decision .. I think it all depends on your situation - how long can you go without working & how soon do you need to finish? You also have to keep the competition in mind. Its only going to get worse from here on out & if your GPA isn't in tip top shape then you might want to consider taking this opportunity. GPA is the first thing schools look at. They review your transcripts forwards & backwards taking into cosideration every W, F & repeat. I've actually heard repeating a class doesn't help any especially when its a science. You also have to check on the requirements for retaking a class, I think you need to have a D to be eligible.

Personally, if it were me, I would just go with Nova. The quicker you get your Bachelor's degree the quicker you can specialize in something. Taking the LPN route might cost less but it will take you longer and time is money!!

KGB0217 ..... Congrats on your acceptance! I also want to have my ARNP eventually, so that is why I chose Nova as well, it is expensive but there's always ways to pay for school. It's true that it's only going to get more competitive from here on. I suggest not to take the LPN route because it will take longer to reach your final goal. I want to ask you, when did you apply for Nova? I'm curious to know because a lot of us are still waiting, and some even from February! I applied in the beginning of April so I'm sure im still going to wait for a while. Thanks for your post, it helped with knowing that atleast Nova isn't just on stand still :)

Ok, I feel just a little better about the Baptist Scholarship opportunity. I called the scholarship department at Baptist and I asked if they were still accepting applications since Nova is running very behind, and the lady told me yes they are and to give them a call as soon as I here from Nova to see if at that time I can still apply. This is good news! So hopefully Nova responds soon to all of us waiting so there may still be a chance to apply for Baptist! Woo Hoo! As for what Nova told me, it's no news.. still processing applications as fast as they can :(

Let's just be patient for now.....

Thanks! :) I believe I applied either at the end of March or April.
