I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
Katie, the LASSI is a test for J1 only. :)
Here's part of the e-mail from Kanora:
DBS...I'm going to PM you about that. I can't get into my mind exactly how this history stuff will be asked. Are there sample questions as well?
Does anyone NOT like the fact that the questions on the Fundamentals CD are the same as the questions online? I really wanted more questions to quiz myself with, not the same ones!
DH is leaving today for 2 weeks. This is going to be rough trying to balance being a single mom of two in nursing school. Hats off to those doing it for real!
Katie, the LASSI is a test for J1 only. :)You'll be tested over a total of ten (10) modules and will need to make
a passing score of 75 or above on each section. Any section that you
don't make a 75 or above on you'll need to complete the module exercises
for that module and print the completion page that indicates you've
finished the exercises."
I guess they want to help you all. There were more than 10 people who failed 1st semester at both EC and NL last semester.

is a great idea, however, keep in mind that you are RESPONSIBLE for ALL of the objectives in the syllabus...Don't shoot the messenger...I'm only repeating what we were told when we whined about our first test....learned that lesson REAL quick!
And don't forget to do all of the questions in the workbook on the chapters you've covered....especially for the first couple of tests, I remember some word for word questions. I know that instructors are different, but the test banks don't change.
Good luck to all of you. I know you're feeling so overwhelmed right now...and unfortuantely that isn't going to let up for awhile, but as guage14iv said, eat that elephant one bite at a time.....and if it helps to put the face of your "favorite" ELC staffperson who works in admissions on the elephant...so be it!

So LASSI is a test that examines learning styles? Seems like that is something they could have you do, you know, before you have to start learning! Would have been a nice thing to get out of the way during the summer, hmm?
Hang in there, everyone! This is one of my fav quotes: 'When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and swing'

Hi zarrakhan. I can say that the classes are enjoyable there, in my opinion. There is a large amount of reading which will keep you occupied most of the time. :)
Good luck to you!
DreamBelieveSucceed- those blueprints are extremely helpful and very accurate! The only bad thing is in 2nd semester they start weaning you off of them (as you probably learned in keys class like I did) and I knew that so I tried not become too dependent on them. From what you mentioned about the sample blueprint, that is pretty much how test 1 begins. You will do a wonderful job! Once you get that 1st test out of the way, you'll begin to see how well you really will do. Best of luck to you!
FaceinBooks,
Thanks so much for your encouragement. I appreciate your input about the blueprint. I would really like to be able to work directly from the syllabus objectives, and maybe that will work as we get further along. I think we are all going crazy with not knowing what to expect this first test - kind of like we all were when it came to A&P I, II and Micro!!! We have been scared out of our minds with the expectations of how different nursing test are - more scenarios and case studies.
Is it easier to follow the syllabus when taking notes/studying, specifically the objectives, as we get further along? Since you have weaned off of the blueprint what do you use to help you narrow things down and study manageable parts?
I know I've seen you post before - probably on the Spring 06 thread. Do you attend EC/NL? Sorry, I can't remember!!!
DreamBelieveSucceed,
Along with the blueprint I began to study the objectives in the syllabus. They are a great guideline although they don't give you everything you need to know. They just narrow your focus which is really all that is needed. The blueprint will be exactly what you want to follow for most of the tests. That was all some people went by sometimes. Do you have that book Fundamentals Success by Patricia Nugent and Barbara Vitale? That book is a GREAT reference! It gives you rationales for every answer to really help you understand why an answer is what it is which helps me a lot. Using MedsPub helped me out tremendously as well. They say you should do 200 practice questions for each test and I really feel like that is good advice. It gets you in the mode of thinking for those nursing questions.
I am in 2nd semester at El Centro. I think we have the same lecture instructor, Branscome. I heard the lecture instructor that we had last semester isn't doing lecture anymore....
That 1st test is the most frightening one but the blueprint will be a great guide. The syllabus is good for directing you but just on a very general level whereas the blueprints are more specific.
This is a great place to visit because we all are here to support you and each other. Lean on us because that's what we're all here for.

At the "Keys to Success" class she gave us a "sample" Test 1 Blueprint (this is the actual title on page) that was used in Spring 06 for 1st semester. It is a list of 49 questions that are broken down by "subject," i.e., "History, Nursing, Profession, Role of Nurse" then "Legal/Ethical", etc. It is just something to help narrow down the information for the test (I think!). On the syllabus the Objectives are pretty broad, this Test Blueprint has the 1st question as "Identify nurse's role in the situation: manager, educator, counselor, communicator." Another narrowed down subject is the nursing theories. A friend of mine in the pilot group sent me a copy of the one that her instructor gave their group and it is identifical to the one I got at the Keys class; however, I'm sure this probably isn't the only info on the test, but the questions do pretty much cover the major info.
If anyone wants a copy I'll be happy to e-mail it - just PM me!
