Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
I think I'm too visual to try recording lectures. I wish it worked for me though. Dual scope? Where you can both hear the heart? It's not so bad - even I made it through vital signs on my first go round
Dual scopes have two ear piece sections, but one bell part. (...and a triple scope is there too.)
I'm a med. assistant, so I've done vitals..no biggie. It's just that there is that certain protocol to go by, certain things to say/do, in a certain order, playing make-believe with your instructor watching you. :chuckle
Yeah, I took a class at ECC last Spring where I had to do that. Make sure you say their name, introduce yourself, lower the bed rails and all that good stuff. I remember :) It does feel weird having someone watch you, especially if that person isn't your normal teacher. Plus, I didn't know the girl I was groping, so that always makes it interesting too LOL

Actually, just like I said to the instructor, I can talk to patients just fine. (Yes, I get tongue-tied a bunch, so anyone I talk to has to deal with that a little....)
That's ok...I'M GOING TO DO THIS! :)
Hey NL crew!
It seems like there are more of you on this site than there are of the EC crew!
We are all pretty overwhelmed at EC - READ, READ, READ, & READ some more. Some of it is pretty boring but I try to make it as interesting as I can. Being visual, I just think about the scenarios that pertain to the content I am reading that I could be in when I graduate - esp. the Legal and Ethical issues. But I have to say - pretty boring so far.
Next week we actually start our Skills Lab 1119 class, in addition to the clinical lab and lecture. I'm filling in my calendar with TO DO lists for the next 15 weeks!!! OH MY GOSH!! WHEN WILL I EVER FIND TIME TO SLEEP!!!!
We have VS check-offs on Wednesday. Most of us have never done any of this before so it is a bit scary and intimidating. We actually practiced with our instructor this week and used her double/teaching stethoscope.
Did you guys get the e-mail from Kanora about the LASSI testing information that we have to complete by Sept. 22? I know she said something about that at that 1st day meeting and she said it would take about 2 hours per module and there are 10 of them. SO WHEN DO WE HAVE 10 EXTRA HOURS TO DO THIS?!?!?!?!? I pray I am mistaken on how much time it will take.
All things considered - ITS ALL GOOD!!! We all keep saying, "WE CAN DO THIS - JUST LIKE MANY OTHERS HAVE BEFORE US!!!!!!"
Hopefully, it's 2 hours total!?!?!?!?!? HOPEFULLY....we don't have to PAYYYYYYYYYYY more for the test! :chuckle
Right now, I feel completely stupid. My Spygmomanometer is set at 300 for some reason, so I guess I have to go get a new BP cuff. (I didn't buy it from the school or SNA.) That kinda defeats the purpose when trying to practice at home.
I think there is more 2nd sem ECC campus students, and several NLC 1st sem on here.
Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And to everyone!)
What do you mean its set at 300? You can take the front off the thing and twist it around if it is the dial type...
I took it apart, and tried that. It won't stay. I can't get the arm off to get the 'numbers plate' off to wind it from the inside.
I did stick something down in there to turn the dial inside, but when I tightened the plastic face back on, it went up to almost 80.
I'm about fed up, and wasting too much time with it. lol
I'll work on it more, but geeze....................................
hi guys,
how about that Lassi stuff, I am almost tempted not to do that at all, they say it is required, but what are they gonna do to us ,if we don't do it???:smiley_ab
they should have thought about that before we started, i have to think about studying for my test now, not about how well i am doing about my anxiety, blah blah blah.
I'll chech with my instructor, but i definetly won't worry about completing it by the 22nd. I have my first test and my check of for assessment by then, and I am not gonna waist my time on some silly stuff like that.

:chuckle I know what you mean!
Our first test is Wednesday, 8/20. So, I'll do it after that!
The e-mail from Kanora almost seemed to lead on that we could take it online at home????? If so, and we can take each module at different settings, then I'll spread it out. If it all has to be completed at one time, I'm going to procrastinate.
As of now, my "free time" is about 12 midnight....in between dozes sitting at my desk.

Yes, I record my lectures. Then I listen to them on the way home after lecture, and to and from school for skills labs.
I'm going to be at open lab from 3-4 tomorrow. I definitely need to practice on the dual scope. I'm sure hoping the earplugs aren't hard. lol
