Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

Kendra, if you see this before tomorrow.....

Who knows, but we can consider ourselves ahead of the game. :)

Apparently, not everyone received the practice test/abbreviations handout in their acceptance packet.

Congrats on the 100! :D

I've almost finished chapter two in the Fundamentals book. I know that we hit and miss in the Med/Surg book this semester, and the Assessment book is used quite a bit for skills lab reading assignments.

I think many/most of the books are for us to use for the next 4 semesters.

I have my Fundamentals book debound, so I'm bringing ch. 1-8, 21-28 (Something like that.)

For next week, I think it is, I have ch 6 from the Pharmacology book saved on a Word doc stored in my PDA. :chuckle

For now, I'm not bringing my laptop, but I am bringing my stylin', rollin' bag. :lol2:

I am also trying to pre-read and take notes. I am a little confused though.....maybe this is such a stupid question at this point.....but why do we have so many books if most of the syllabus is over Fundamentals......are they for reference? I have only gotten through chapters 1 and 2 in that book. I am a little freaked out about tomorrow...just because of the unknown! Mi'Shelle, what books are you taking or are you taking your laptop?

Kendra

BTW....I too received 100 on my math test. What was up with us having to memorize all the abbreviations and not using them?

It sounds like you guys are getting into the swing of things. WTG! I am so proud of you all.

What Fundamentals text are you all using? *I would pay money to take a peek at that syllabus. I won't even be attending EC/NL, but I am so nervous about my program that I am contemplating calling the local college and asking for the schedule/syllabus/books/ for first semester students! :lol2:

Funnie, I'm going to the direct-entry program in OHIO. It starts next May.

Keep working hard guys! Now the fun begins!

I have seen a note on the board today. There is a student forum on Sept 18 at PHD by an oncology nursing association. It's from 6 pm to 8.30 pm. Does any of you know anything about it? Are you planning to go?

The syllabus may confuse you more. :uhoh21:

Fundamentals is Potter & Perry (I think....Potter and someone...)

Katie...I didn't see that I guess. I know the NLC SNA meeting is Sept. 13 at 3 PM in the T building.

Other than that.............I'm not in the know. lol

Hey guys! What a few first days!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fun - I can relate on the overwhelmed with family/school priorities. I know I will have to miss some of the kids' "things"; but not meet the teacher and the first soccer games of the season, etc., etc., (too much of the SAHM in me! LOL).

The biggest confusion for me is the fact that information comes from so many different sources - how to consolidate all this info in order to study! Any ideas/tips?!?!?!??

Regarding note-taking: For lecture we have a reading schedule (includes page # and chapters we need to read for that week - roughly 100 pages per week) that our instructor e-mailed to us yesterday as well as a lecture guide that she will use. BUT - I'm not sure how to organize my notes whle reading - do I just read the pages she has listed in order and read/take notes; or do I go by her lecture outline which hops around all those pages we need to be reading ??? I guess I like to be a little too organized and I like to read and take notes in the order that the textbook is laid out! Does that mean I am setting myself up for failure since it is hard for me to be "flexible" (the EC staff term) when it comes to organizing my notes/reading:rolleyes:? LOL!!!

BTW - Thyroid sono shows small growth. Not sure what that means. Waiting for call from Dr. office for next step. Tumor/nodule feels a little smaller when I swallow than it did before!:wink2: So thanks for prayers!

Hey girl...this is Stephanie....I read, take notes, then do the study guide, and then go to the next chapter in line as she has it....Do you understand? The lectured handout that we had to print out is to jumpy. I guess we really have to see how it goes tomorrow when we get to know more how she is.

So did you go look at those videos today? How were they and do you think it's important information?

I'm so glad that the thyroid nodule/tumor is small and that it feels smaller to you. I feel...like I told you before...that this is something minor and everything is ok.

See you on the train tomorrow??

Steph - I miss you in my clinical - maybe next semester!!! I started out taking notes over the entire chapter and felt like I was so slow and not getting anywhere - not to mention that alot of what I was reading does not appear to be covered on our lecture outline. So I stopped and just started reviewing and skimming each chapter before tomorrow.

Dig this, Petra has I think she said 4 or 5 students in her clinical group (the pilot group) that are having to repeat this semester because they failed the lecture part:no:  !! Scary!! She also said that in her lecture class they didn't cover a whole lot on the first day. Think I'll wait to take major notes until after tomorrow.

I'll see you tomorrow on the train - I'm not cooking in the crock pot so I should be there earlier:wink2: :wink2: .

Continued prayers for you. :kiss

(Of course prayers for N.S. as well.) I think I'm about to make a pot of coffee! I've had so many interruptions this week, and I seem to get the most concentration in when everyone's sleeping. (Including myself is the problem....:chuckle)

My prime study time was from 11 p - 1 a.m. That way I could spend some of the evening with my dh and kiddos without feeling guilty, then when they went to bed I got started. You'll find your "prime" time before you know it!

BTW, I was reading the thread about everyone's schedules...can't remember who but someone mentioned Texas Specialty Hospital...is that the one down on Harry Hines past Parkland? If so, that's where I did my first semester clinicals (it was called by another name then), and I'd be glad to answer any questions I can for ya!

I'm glad to know that other people had/have a late night prime time. lol

Right now, my hubby is on his way to NLC to jump my car off. Campus policeman said the battery was "Deader than a doornail." :uhoh3: I sure hope we don't have to buy a new battery. ugggggh

At least I have my PDA. :chuckle (I also can study.) ;)

I hope you are already on your way home.

I have just come back from ECC. We had a great skills review with Ms. B.

Oh yeah...I'm home already. :)

My husband came up there, put the car on the jumper cables with our truck's battery, and the car started right up.
