Sunny -- My goal is to travel as soon as I can once I get out of school. I've heard I need at least a year or two of experience. You status says "around the world." Are you traveling as a nurse around the world? I'd be interested in hearing your off topic story :)

Hey y'all.

Brie is in the THR program. fyi

I know I asked about it, and you pretty much have to work there. I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply, just in case the quota isn't full with their own employees.

Well, see? This place contains a wealth of information :D

I'm a surgical tech. I did the program at El Centro awhile back. Errors (mostly identity theft) on my Group One report kept me from getting a job in DFW after I graduated.

I tried for MONTHS but no hospital in the areas would touch me. I had 2 "abandoned position" on my report plus it said I had worked as a respiratory tech and another position (I am neither).

I was raised in the Bahamas and my parents are still there. I was so sad I went to see my parents. I was blessed and got a job at a posh surgery clinic there (right across the street from my old elementary school)!

The docs there did general procedures and plastics. They had no problem with me being a new tech grad. I worked there 6 months and they paid me very well. One day a Brazilian doctor friend of the guys who owned the clinic came to town and offered me a chance to work in Brazil.

I jumped at the chance and worked for him at his surgery in Rio for 6 months. By then I was able to clean up my Group One report (I sued them after I had verified and validated), but I spent another 7 months working in Venezuela, Argentina and Australia before I came back to the US. That Brazialian doc went around teaching plastic techniques to other surgeons (his friends).

I came back here and hooked up with and agency and spent most of my time in the Midwest. I ended up moving to IN to be with my DF. The agency still places me in hospitals aroung here, but I am mostly PRN these days.

It didn't seem like it at the time, but that Group One error was God's blessing in disguise. I love to travel and got it free of charge. I would never have gotten the opportunity fresh out of school, but safe opportunities opened up and I took them.

That's my story in a nutshell....... :lol2:

Dang all this time, and I never knew it! Sunny's a bahama mama! :chuckle

Your story is cool....very exciting!

So, the Group One thing....it showed you had bad credit, bad work history...what? What is Group One?

Anyone know the yearly reimbursement amount?

It is $5625 I believe.... If you are in THR's nursing program and you exceed that amount, our director also has a reimbursement program. Most people do not meet/exceed that amount unless you are attending UTA or something.

Thanks Gauge!

Can you also ask her the commitment time? How long?

If you use the reimbursement, you must work for THR for 6 months. They just lowered it. If you take the "transition loan" of $4000.00, you must stay 2 years to have it forgiven.

I'd heard about it. How do you apply for it? Is the training at Big Presby?

Future DFW students who read this thread might want to know (I sure want to know)!

Classes are at Corporate in Arlington, Harris downtown, HEB, Presby Dallas, and Presby Plano. You must be an employee (PRN, Part-time, or Full-time). FYI: PRN employees to not get benefits therefore no tuition reimbursement. There are a few of us that are PRN, but our director reimburses us. He does have a limited amount of funding though.

My googlefu must be weak, because I cannot find anything online about their AD program. Heh.

The program is not advertised.... I heard about it from a friend of mine who worked for THR. Most of our employees don't even know about it... We also have a RN-BSN and BSN-MSN program. Only employees or dependants of employees can request the packet/application.

Has anyone else noticed that 'potential employee' part? That might open some doors if they are still accepting people who do not work there. Woohoo! Something else to look into :)

They are no longer accepting non-employees because the program has gotten very popular. When they first started, they didn't have enough employees to do it, so they would take people that didn't get in to El Centro. Now they have more than enough... in fact there are a good amount of people who do not get in.

I have heard rumors that Methodist of Dallas is either doing the same thing or considering it, but I have not been able to confirm that.

Yes that is true... their students actually attend classes with us sometimes at corporate. I don't really know the details of their program other than you must be an employee.

Wow, Sunny -- that's very exciting! Too bad I don't have connections outside the states! Isn't it strange to look back and see such a bad thing as a blessing in disguise? :)

Brie -- Thanks for sharing. I was worried about that, but it never hurts to ask!
