Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!
:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:
I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
Yes, MATH 2442 is the one I'm taking. It's through Thompson.
We had to do a conference call orientation, but nothing on campus. You don't buy a book. The book is located online, and you have access to it with your access code purchase price.
I've been printing mine out though....2 pdf pages per each side of the paper to save paper. :)
That way I have a hard copy to look at while I'm listening/watching the video lessons online. I guess I could move to the other computer & watch the videos on my laptop, while having the book pulled up online on the other computer. That would save paper & ink. LOL
With the access of MyMathLab, you also have a free tutor....available by phone, e-mail, fax or interactive web. I did it today, as I wrote earlier, by phone, and it helped so much.
Our tests are only 20 questions. Since it's summer, we only have 5 homework questions per section that we have to do, but it's our responsibility to work the practice questions & practice tests for more 'practice'.
As far as the pants go, I understand. The pant brand is Landau, and the style is 8320. When you have freetime, you can go try some on to see how the fit. You probably could call around, or look online, to see which stores close to you carry Landau.
I am more worried about finding pants that FIT correctly. That was my reasoning behind buying them on my own.As far as Stats goes, I have signed up a 4 hour class at Cedar Valley. I did notice that they were offering a 4 hour Stats class online through Cedar Valley this fall. I e-mailed the instructor because I have never taken any online classes and wasn't sure about taking an online math class. Who is the instructor for your Stats class? I'll bet it's the same guy teaching the online this fall. The other class I have signed up for is online but I went ahead and signed up for a non-online Stats class. I'm signed up for Math 2442...is that correct Stats class? When does your Stats class end? If you do alright with the online class I will probably go ahead and change to the online Stats class. Then I wouldn't have to go to the school at all except maybe for orientation - I wouldn't know how to act!
Jaxia,I wouldn't do that - I would stay right where you are. I use to date a guy who is a Respiratory Therapist who does agency work here in Dallas. He goes to alot of hospitals and he told me that he has many RN friends at different hospitals and they tell him that TWU new grad RN's (not RN-BSN) have the WORST clinical skills upon graduation of all the programs in this area. He said that Brookhaven's grads have the best and EC grads have 2nd best. Personally, I want a solid foundation.

Amy - I'm sorry but that kind of info is just bull - I promise you I can find someone who would say the same thing about EVERY school out there.
I'm not on the 'well aware list', but I agree with gauge14iv. There are so many opinions & rumors going around, it's always best to do your own investigating. :)
I always thought TWU was the best nursing school, but maybe that's changed.
Back after I graduated, my choices were TWU, UTA & ORU (in OK). I never applied to TWU or ORU, but did apply/got accepted at UTA. Money kept me from going....didn't qualify for financial aid.
Oh well.....I'm working my way around that problem. :chuckle
All of the schools around here are good. Certainly some are stronger in some things than others, but overall I'd say they are all about the same, none of them lack in clinical skills.
I have met a few nurses who could be said to have lacked clinical skill but something tells me it had to more to do with the nurse than her education LOL

:chuckle Then you have the ones that are great in clinical skills and lack in common sense.
(Is it ok that I talk about myself in here?) HAHAHA
I think you'll see this type of situation in any type of nursing/counseling, etc. At 16, that girl should have been emancipated. I can't believe they allowed/made her to go back. (Unless she told the police a story to make them think she wasn't abused out of fear of her parents.)Then again, I can't believe someone would abuse their child in the first place. :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
She told the truth. The problem was that there were no places for her to go -- no foster homes. Because of her age, they said she just had to wait because they wouldn't remove her. It was really sad.
You are right though. I think we'd come across it. The thing that I think makes it so hard about school nursing is that you get to know the students so well. It is horrible to hear when it happens to a stranger...when it happens to someone you know and care about...
I agree. I worked as a teachers aide at the high school that I graduated from...obviously not for the money...lol
It is heartbreaking to see/hear certain things after you've established a bond with the students.

Have you tried them on yet Fun? :)
I took the college algebra class online and I loved it! I realize all people are different though. I hope I can find stats online when I need it.
I read through some old posts in the Texas forum, and there are plenty of comments back and forth about the different schools. Personally, at this point, I honestly don't care WHERE I go to school, as long as it is accredited
Someone PM'd me asking about loans and the system I posted in another thread. I can't remember who it was though. :uhoh21:I have contacted Tuition Answer, Next Student and Bank of America. I am also looking at a loan through Prosper.
They all work with the plan in my thread.
I didn't PM you, but I am interested in the information

I think it is heartwrenching no matter if I know them or not. It is so sad to read in the news about a child that was abused. They are so defenseless and it seems like there is nothing you can do about it. That is what I am afraid of if I work in the NICU or with older children. I want to go into but it is going to take a lot out of me when I have to deal with the stupid parent's.
