I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Hmm, she didn't say anything about a book when I called to schedule the class. I'm supposed to take it in a week, so I can let you know then. This class is $40.

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

Fun - did you get a bluetooth keyboard for your PDA? I have one for mine - it made taking notes nice, although it was still easier on the laptop. Where it came in handy was taking down info for clinicals in a place where I could not take the laptop along.

I was wondering...those of you with rolling bags -- are you using a rolling backpack, or a rolling luggage bag? I think I might get a luggage bag :)

Specializes in Operating Room.

So, basically, I need one of each on my PDA? :rotfl:

Jaxia....they'll probably give you a book. I don't even think we used the book for the class. It's basically for outside reading. :D (That is, if the instructor's a good one.)

As for a rolling book bag....I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I was thinking about having my books unbound.

I haven't bought any accessories yet. Circuit City didn't carry them yet. :uhoh3:

Gonna go look at Stedman's. :) Thanks for all of your help, gauge14iv!!!!!!!

OK...I have the epocrates & Stedman's dictionary.

Now, should I, before school starts, get the med-surg download on fadavis.com, or stick with the books?

Katie, you said you took yours with you to clinical....Is that one that is given with the book pack?

If you visit the websites for your books, you will find that some of them offer at least portions of the book for download onto your PDA - or even a complete PDA version of the book itself!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

I took my drug book (from library), my care plan book if I needed to work on that (not in book pack) and the clinical version (small) of med-surg book (from the book pack). Some classmates had a small med. dictionary, too (not in book pack).

That it. :)

Is the clinical med-surg small enough to fit in a pocket, or a storage clipboard?

What I'm trying to do is have everything on my person. (I hate that saying...lol).

If I need 'extra' stuff, I can leave it in my truck, or only bring what I need that day, say if I needed my careplan book.

gauge14iv, ours insn't available on PDA version yet. They're just now ooing and awing over a book version & an electronic version package deal. I'm sure in a few years, things will be different. LOL

(Buy hey....I think that's pretty cool still too....:lol2: )

This is it:

It fits in a pocket, not sure about the clipboard.

Funnie, check if you have the same med-surg book. They have changed some books. Also, check if you have any clinical companion book on your book list. Those should be small enough to carry to the hospital.

Thanks, Katie. If that is the same companion book, it is on PDA version. :chuckle

Our book list shows "Iggy Med Surg 5/e text, study guide, & pocket companion"

It's not really clear as to which pocket companion. :(

I have made an alphabetical list of the 'supposed' drug cards, just in case anyone wants to make their own drug cards. (....Printable on 2 pages, or one sheet front & back.)

I'm planning on doing my own on 4X6 note cards & keeping them in a plastic coupon envelope I bought at the Dollar General Store. :D

Again I will add, they may or may not be "THE ONES", but the more we know about meds, the better off we will be for school & the NCLEX. :)

Let me add that I haven't double checked this yet to make sure I didn't delete any off from the original cards. If you find a mistake, let me know. :) I'll try to check it later.
