Lol, ~$500 is much more reasonable :)

Yeah, I hope we get to know each other, especially if we are on the same campus. Having a good support system is so important!

Have a great trip!

Hi guys!

I just got a GREAT article on the Critical Care Residency and Trauma internship for new grads at Parkland. It expalins the difference in teh two programs. Since most of us will be ADN grads, we are eligible for the Residency. If you want to work NICU, burns , ER or any ICU at Parkland, this is the program you want.

Check out this tread for info on how to get it.

(FYI it is long, but an excellent read!)

Amy, hopefully we will at least 'know' each other :D

Jaxia,

I was thinking the same thing. I will admit, I am kind of worried about NL though. 18 people dropped the first semester?!?!?! That is scary. I still haven't turned in my application so I could still put El Centro as first choice. I don't know what to do!

Fun,

Do you wish you had picked El Centro instead of NL after seeing the 18 dropped? Most of the people "in our group" go to El Centro, correct? Is there anyone here that already goes to NL that I could talk to? Has anyone heard anything about NL??

No way! I'm sure it's because the individual, not because of the program or teachers.

32 people are continuing. That's more than is not continuing.

Plus, we don't know the circumstances. Some people find out that nursing isn't really for them, but decide to stick it out the whole semester, some can't find the finances, some can't find babysitters, some do not want to commit to the amount of studying it requires, and then there are those few that just didn't pass with a high enough grade, but are determined enough to try again.

Katie's at NL.

Funnie is right. We also have a couple of girls who are pregnant.

The instructors are the same at EC and at NL. They move from time to time. For example, we had Mr. M. last semester who teaches the pilot program at EC now. We also had Ms. F. who is not available now. On the other hand there is a new one Ms. S. at NL who was at EC before.

Katie and Fun!

Thanks - I feel better now. I know, I know....I just freak out sometimes. But all this nursing stuff is serious business and I want to make sure I am making the right decision.

Hey Amy.....I am at NL also...first semester. I will tell you the truth. I have two reasons I choose NL. One is I have attended Northlake for some of my pre-reqs.....the other is....I simply do not want to drive my car downtown! I just do not trust the downtown environment. I have a "target" vehicle for theft. PARANOID....probably! It does scare me that 18 people are not going on in the program, but I also have to look at who drop courses also....for instance, Katie and I are in Microbiology together....50 people started the course 3 1/2 weeks ago and I bet at least 10 have dropped it so far! I only have 12 people in my lab. So proportionately speaking....they are the same.

About the target vehicle for theft thing- my boss has been working in downtown for over 15 years and has driven a Lexus, BMW, and now a Navigator. He's never had anything happen to his car. I drive a pretty nice Mustang and I've lived downtown for 3 years and have had nothing happen. Unless you drive a Maserati, I think you're okay to park downtown. ;) There's way too much hustle and bustle for anything to happen...at least during the day. Now, at night is a different story haha

Hi Kendra,

Thanks for your input. You will be starting first semester or you have just finished first semester? NL would be an obvious first choice for me since I live in Irving - about 10 minutes from NL. BUT, I would drive downtown if I HAD to, no problem. I also attended NL for a couple of prereq. classes a couple of semesters ago. You and Katie are going to have to let me know how Micro. was after ya'll finish since I will be taking in next summer instead of this fall like I originally wanted to do. I just about died last semester with school and working 45-50 hours per week so I don't want to die this fall before I even get in the program! I just tend to freak out sometimes. I know it's because I have worked SO hard to get to this point and can't imagine not making it. I am just SO passionate about a career in nursing. I just pray that my determination helps me make it to the other side!

Amy, you are going to make it. We are all here to support you! I don't know what I would have done without the friendships I have made in here and that really helps. Your desire and passion will guide you further than you ever thought it could.
