Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
No, she was sitting in the back.Katie
I only remember 2 of the other 9 choosing the TBA site, the first person (a guy) to choose TBA, and a girl. (I remember hearing others, but don't remember who they are.)
I tried to catch all the RHD ones, but I realized it was almost full by the end of the first 10 people. Then I went into panic mode....LOL
So, I was still debating until I walked up to Pam. I said, "I think I'm going to choose the TBA site........which is section 7234." (I almost forgot to say the section # in all the excitement. :chuckle
Hey Fun,
I haven't been on in a while and I've missed keeping up with everyone. I went to orientation today and met some great people that I am excited about getting to know once the semester starts. I wanted to ask you about the books for the first semester - are you going to buy the package or are you going to find them used online? I went ahead and ordered the package since we get the online/downloadable versions as well - but the MONEY!!!!! I know you are a "book lady" so I was hoping you had some insight. I guess I am a little strange in that I still like my hard copy of books and the 16 reference books on the bottom of the list only come in downloadable format and not hard copy. I did ask about the downloads being available for PDA's and that is not currently available but they are working on it for the future.
I'm excited about my clinical - I got Integrated Health Systems with Stahl. I've heard it is a great rotation with lots to see and do with a good prof. I could have picked Mesquite which is much closer to home - but wasn't sure of the instructor. I even have a fellow Rowlett resident who is also going to the same clinical site - YIPPEE for a carpool!!!
So how are you doing? What's up with the summer class?
I'm glad your orientation went well. :)
I'm going to buy the book pack, as far as I know.
I am always trying to look up stuff on my computer, so having reference material will be great.
....You know when you remember reading something and CAN'T find it!?!??!??!? That's when the books being on your computer will come in handy! SEARCH!!! LOL
As far as reading for the first time....I need the book, but for reference, the 'in the computer' version will be sufficient. Also, it will help if I want to go somewhere...I can take my laptop & read while my hubby is driving. :chuckle
I've 'somewhat' started on STATS. The class actually starts July 12, but I've completed the first two chapters. By this weekend, I will have taken the Ch 1 & 2 practice test, but I'm not sure if we can take the regular tests yet.
I'm looking forward to STATS being over, and FALL starting. I feel like I have been playing this summer, and with 4 semesters left to go, it kind of feels like a waste of time. (I could be taking a nursing class!) haha
Oh well....We'll be wondering what the heck we've gotten ourselves into soon enough.
I almost picked Mesquite, but I'm hoping to be lucky....maybe my TBA hospital will be closer to me.
Ok.....our schedules are posted! Well...at least mine is. I have a question....my skills lab is scheduled for Mondays but the paper schedule they gave us on Wednesday shows skills on Monday 8/28, then the rest of the time they are on tuesdays. I think I understood Pam to say the times would be different, but did she say anything about the days? I just like to plan, plan, plan....
Good news....I put in my resignation from work yesterday for August 18. But my boss offered me a part-time position working from my house! This is a big step for me. I have worked since I was 16, raising myself and a deadbeat ex-husband! Now it is my turn....my husband is giving me the chance to do something for me....well US in the end. This is a very hard concept because I have never had to rely on anyone else but myself. Confusing, scared, nervous....you name it I am feeling it!

As I remember the date and time for the skills labs and preclinicals during the first 8 or so weeks are flexible. It may changes week by week. It's hard to plan for those weeks. After you start going to your hospital the schedule should be set.
Working part time from home sounds great. :balloons:
Katie
Kendra, you weren't suppose to look until after 3:00!! :lol2:
....Just checked....mine's up too.
I think we're going to be sent a new schedule, along with whatever paper (?????), and we're suppose to check the board the week before for last minute changes.
That's all I know....I'm confused too.
So, we're NOT suppose to wear our uniforms to skills labs & lectures? Only the name tag? Was this addressed in the orientation???
EDITED TO ADD: I remember Pam stating something about not adding all the different times/days because it would be too much. Maybe that's why. Mine only has skills lab on Thursdays, and I know it's more than once a week. :) (Actually, Mine shows clinical on T, lecture on W, and skills lab on R.....I wish......That would be nice....F-M to study.) :chuckle

(It' s just getting more confusing.)
They didn't talk about this. I think it depends on your skills instructor.
Here is what my group did: We wore our shiny uniforms only in the hospital. We had something comfy on in skills lab and during lectures. During check offs at school we had street cloths and the white lab coat on with name tag. When we went to the hospital to select a patient for the next day we wore business casual and the official white lab coat with name tag (so people thought we were med.students:lol2:).
That's it. :)

lol... I know you told me before that you only wore the uniform for clinical, but I wasn't sure what to do for the first day. ??????? I don't want to be the only one in uniform, nor the only one out of uniform. :chuckle
I was going to fax my fee receipt to my scholarship officer, but I can't even get a book list with prices yet. So, I'm going to see what I can do about that. ($1103.30) OUCH!

What kind of book list do you need? I think there is a book list on the 'evolve' paper.
Or have you tried on eConnect? There is a link 'buy my books' that will show what books you need based on your registration. It shows prices, too.
Oh, wait, they don't have the book list for fall 06 yet. Bummer.

Funnie, I forgot to tell you that I have a microbiology classmate who will be in your clinical group. She is very friendly and funny. :)
