Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
SubQ 'recheck' went well today. (I had to recheck because I checked the labels 4 times at the med cart, and one AFTER I gave the meds.)
4 times was the number of times that the label was suppose to be checked before giving, the AFTER was an extra. Ms A said I had to redo it.
She asked my why I checked it afterward, and I said, "If I happened to miss something all the other times, if I catch something after giving, I can give the antidote." (Glucagon = antidote for Insulin)
6/9 people had to recheck out of my clinical group.
I would have made a 100! Oh well....can't fight it. Take my 78 and be glad I passed the recheck.
IM check-off is on Friday. I practiced a bunch today, and Iris helped by demonstrating and giving good advice to everyone in open lab. At least now I have somewhat of a clue as to what we're suppose to do for the IM check-off.
Of course I have to finish my IV homework before Friday's check-off, but before I do that, I have to finish my paper work for clinical tomorrow!
CALGON!
For other instructors? No
I'm thinking *maybe* she didn't know how many times I checked the label before, and thought that the 'after' check was the 4th.
Her word against mine, sad to say.
For my recheck, I think I checked the labels about 20 times just to make sure Iris saw/heard me doing it each time. :chuckle
.....I did leave off the 'after' label check.....so no confusion there! :chuckle
OK....back to the pile of papers. I just had to take a minute to clear my mind. :stone
I know. I just have to say that everyone is human.
At any rate, I really do like my lab instructor's classes, and she has been really nice to everyone. However, 6/9 people had to retake the check-off. That's just "weird" to me.
Coincidence happens, I guess.
:pumpiron: C=continue, C=continue :pumpiron:
4 checks ???? We just checked ours 3 times just like any other med, So weird how they have different rules.
My test went ok , I had a B, I think our average was just like NL's. It was a tough test, but I think the first tests are always the hardest.
Clinicals today, SIMS baby Friday, IM Check off next week
I'm sorry Mi'Shelle. Try having that in clinical every time! LOL. She's a great instructor but she is very difficult to impress. I had to do a PICC line dressing change which is a sterile procedure and I broke my sterile field completely forgetting where my sterile field was as it's a whole other ball game in a patient's room. I was just so freaked out that she was standing there and PICC line dressing changes are not something we learn in school. I had to teach myself from the internet about 30 minutes before I went into the patient's room! Ms. A guided me along in parts but she expected me to know pretty much how to do everything!!!! can we say STRESSSSSING?!
I'm glad your re-check went well and I'm sorry about your first attempt. What's next? IM? I can't remember what the check-offs were....

We just had an in-service yesterday after clincials with the PICC line Nurses... and they showed us how they are inserted and proper care. We actually got checked off by the HEB nurses on the sterile dressing change!! I was sooooo nervous because an RN was watching my sterile technique!!! It was a really good experience though...

That's great that you had that experience!!!! Congrats on passing the check off! :monkeydance:
Yeah, I know everyone's human. But, they need to acknowledge that they are a part of 'everyone' and that it IS possible that they missed something. To keep the 'my word against yours' out of it, then recording is a good thing, I think. Seems like it would be good for all parties involved.
It also keeps the "I never give 100s unless you walk on water" instructors from "accidentally" missing something we say.
I'm totally with Jaxia on that one. I taped my recheck because I wanted proof of what I did and did not do. I think half of the grade depends on what instructor you have and their mood when they wake up that morning. It's not an ethical way to deal with what is essentially people's lives (as school is our life right now). Most of them seem to be on some kind of power trip unfortunately.
