North Carolina Roll Call

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Hi everyone........My family and I are moving in 3 weeks to cary. We are going to brave it and rent for a while, look for jobs when we get there and the maybe 3 months settle in and buy a house. We almost moved to Asheville, but got a little scared with the havic it caused. We are basiclly californians but moved to Hawaii 2 years ago.

I've been in nursing for over 30 years, an RN for 18. I am presently working on call for NICU to keep my skills up and full time as DON in an Assisted care facility. Would love to go back to get NC- LMT and restart my nursing holistic practice. Can anyone tell me of a good/ short/ Massage therapist school near Cary? . Any suggestions on assisted living places? How about good rental agencies?

We have 3 cats and a 14 year old daughter. Hope all of you have some wonderful holidays with work and family and many bessings as well.

Hey!! I'm in the Raleigh area. As far as massage therapist schools, I don't know of any, however, one of my coworkers just got her MT license, so I can ask her where she went. I don't know anything about assisted living facilities, sorry. :o What kind of rental agency are you looking for?

Good luck with your move! Y'all are coming to town right when it'll be getting juuuuuuuuuuust right temperature wise. Love the fall temps down here. Farmer's almanac says feb. is supposed to be a brutal month for us, forecasting an ice storm. I strongly suggest purchasing a generator, as we do live in hurricane alley AND get snow and ice storms that knock out power.

I'll post tomorrow after I talk to my coworker about where she got her MT license. :)

Specializes in ER (My favorite), NICU, Hospice.

I am in "Mayberry"....aka Mount Airy. I work in a nearby ER.

Live in WV, have active NC license but job did not work out for the me there. I guess God knew I needed to be here. Love Mt Airy area, most like home. Asheville is pretty but costly. Have a great day.

Welcome back to NC! I moved from Hawaii to NC several years ago. I am an NC girl but lived in Lani Kai, Windwardside Oahu, for 10 years and LA, CA for 2 years prior to that. Sorry, can't help you with Carey, I'm at the WAYY other end of the state (100 miles PAST Asheville, still in NC!)

Aloha!

So a windward gal.......10 years is a long time. How do you comepare the two. I would never go back to LA, Calif, but I think It is possible I might miss the islands in about 10 years. Ideally we wanted to live in kauai.

I sure do miss the season change from the mainland and the houses are so small here. 1000 sq. ft is average unless you are paying over 5K. I will miss the aloha way of life, a little slower than most places, more laid back.

I am looking forward to the change though, cold enough to wear a coat, crisp air, the smell of wood buring. Thanks for your reply. How is it way, way past asheville?

It's nice way past Asheville! I'm 100 miles from Atlanta and Asheville in the country. It's rural but, it's home...for now. Nothing takes the place of family so, as much as I loved Hawaii and would love to return, as long as my dad is still around, I'll be in NC. Housing is mo betta here LOL. So are the schools. But, you'll miss Zippys.

I get my coffee and cracked seeds sent. Never knew I was a coffee snob until I moved back! Still get all the Hawaiiana I can by shopping online. I do miss the beach and the aloha but, I love the public schools here. I've been trying to talk my Hawaiian born daughter into getting a volleyball scholarship to UH but no such luck-yet! She is Hapa and looks really exotic here in rural NC. She loves it here so, we'll stay, until...

I am with you, I love Kauai. If I could live anywhere in the world, Kauai would be in my top 3!

Good luck on your journey to the mainland!

Thanks for looking into the MT course and for the tips on the winterizing for feb. It will be a change in climate, thats for sure. We already have the humidity in hawaii but not like NC. And it's been about 2 years since we got some ice on the porch and frosted grass in san jose, california.

We figured we would find a house or condo rental for about 3 months before we purchase a home. Get to know the place better, so to speak. plus we have 3 delightful cats, who will need to be renting with us. That makes it a little harder. I noticed a lot of the real estate agencys in NC do not have a rental part in thier company like the west coast.

Thanks for the info and the intorduction.........

so what made you decide on mayberry? Were you in another area of NC before you moved there? I love the small home style feels of some towns, but want to be in an area that keeps a open mind to all the different types of people that we have in this beautiful world of ours..........

To mushy HuH?...........sorry..........guess being from the land of fruits and nuts in california and from the melting pot in hawaii, I have this love one another mentality.

Thanks for the introduction and info on a different NC........
