North Carolina Roll Call

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

hi everyone..My name is Tina, I am a cardiac RN and work in a hospital in Wilmington. I am originally from Delaware but have been living here for 4 years. I enjoy the people down here and really love what I do.

i am a life-long nc mountain tarheel!! i love it and feel truly blessed to have grown up in a norman rockwell type setting. i am currently a rn student (any prayers you all could send up would be greatly appreciated- :chuckle ) anyway, i live about fifteen miles form the tennesse state line :snow: -it was 5 below zero here a few nights ago without the windchill and it got up to a whole 20 degrees the next day-cold. most people call it god's country around here, because it is beautiful (if you have not been on the parkway it is a must) and the people are wonderful. merry christmas!!!!!!! :santa3:

I'm in Jacksonville, NC and in the LPN program--graduating in may :balloons: :p . I'm planning on starting bridge to RN in jan. 06.

I'm already thinking about job hunting--anyone know of a great place to work as an LPN around jax?

Happy New Year btw...wavey:

hello all!

i'm a 23 year old nursing student from asheville. i go to school in johnson city, tn. i *crosses fingers* will be graduating in december of this year (2005) and desire to move back home. i hope to start out at the hospital to get my experience but i have no clue where i want to work. i loved psych, ob, and my first med-surg rotation.

i started out in 2000 as pre-med. i hated it. they seem to discourage being the kind of doctor my grandfather was ...(the good kind)......so i switched to undeclared.

mom has been a nurse since i was in utero, lol, and has always discouraged me from being a nurse. i suppose she said that on those late nights when we were at the office doing paper work. (she was in home health for a long time.) anyway, when i switched to undeclared the first thing she said to me was "have you ever thought about nursing?" and since i grew up breathing medicine, talking about fecal impactions at the dinner table, and all the good and gross stuff....it seemed to be perfect.

so here i am! a senior. chugging along, taking it one day at a time, trying to stay on top of everything school-wise, and i'm loving it. *cringes* i just heard the mcdonald's jingle.

i'm a little bit sleep deprived and seem to have said way to much -hopefully not too far off topic.

g'night,

gobabego!

(my name is from a note my boyfriend hid in my apartment....its on a piece of paper that is keeping track of how many days i've made it without smoking......today is day 16!:yelclap: )

excellent............you will not regret quitting. Your food will taste better, you will most likley be healthier and you will live longer, so to enjoy all those years ahead of you in your new profession. (from a x-smoker from way back when).

You will not regret becoming a nurse as well. I've been in nursing for over 30+ years and can complain about a lot of things, worked in all kinds of settings, been there, done that attitude, but I know I am blessed to be a nurse with all it's caring, the base of why we became one in the first place. You will forever remember in you mind and heart the special times that make this profession what it is and who you are.

keep up the good work.................

I'm very excited about school and not smoking!

And congratulations to you for being strong enough to put 'em down, too. Its one day at a time.

I certainly think that reading some of the posts on this website have helped me gather the strength and courage to finish school. Thank you guys!

Oh did I mention how excited I am?!?!

congrads and welcome to motherhood and pre nursing............you will not regret either...........there will be times you wondered why but overall they are both blessed events. Stick with the nursing even if it is a little a a time. I tryed doing my graduate studies with a child. It can be done but you have to keep a burning desire. Make sure you take care of yourself in the process!

I was just noticing that you are at one of the "magnet" hospitals. How are they treating you? CRNA........wow, early congrads. Sounds like the same emotions that most of us have when entering nursing school.....you made it through that and this will be a peice of cake, right? Like I mentioned to our other newcomer, you have to remember to take care of yourself as well in the process. Do something nice on a regular basis and your body and mind will thank you for it.......blessings on a wonderful journey!

thanks! lots of prayer needed.....everyone has to sacrifice! by everyone, i mean wonderful hubby, daughters: gracie who will be 5 in april and chloe who just turned 14 months! i love wfubmc. yes, it is a magnet hospital.....great benefits, great reputation.....of course, there are different opinions.....i tend to view my cup half full! :p i think that crna school will be the hardest thing i have ever encountered....except for being a mommie! all the second guessing.... :chuckle .....maybe i should have done this.....weaned a little sooner....later.....etc! oh well, enough about me....look forward to corresponding with you all later! have a blessed evening!

renea

I just found out today that I have been accepted into Duke's Accelerated BSN program!!! I was in Durham last week, and I absolutely fell in love with the state. I'm a seventh-generation Californian, so it's going to be difficult to leave, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. I hope to meet some new people in the area (people are so nice over there, I love it!). :nurse:
