did you hear this too, graduate LPN student's?
I'm finally graduating--finals on may 6th and pinning on the 13th of may. it's been an interesting year to say the least :biggringi my classmates and I have endured much of the: "why didn't you go directly t/ RN?" "we do not hire LPN's, but if you decide to get your RN..." ---> 1000000 x over "why are you even here for clinicals? we don't even hire lpn's here?" :angryfire (the RT Tech was soooo pleasant ) WELL, I did get a job as a LPN on Med-Surg @ that particular hospital and they will even help me financially once i continue in Jan. w/ transition to RN. :balloons: :balloons: I'm so happy---and scared ! It's a great accomplishment for me to work at the hospital I really wanted to be at--even my favorite floor during clinicals. One LPN will retire and i'm going to take her place. it will be difficult to fill a place of such an experienced nurse. i hope i will make everyone proud and maybe they will all reconsider hiring LPN's again on Med-surg. Post Partum and Peds still do but very limited. Good luck to all of you! :redpinkhe: nurse:

Bossy CNA's in LTC(long)
As an LPN student, graduating in less than 2 month, I must say this was a very informative post. :) I just recently had clinicals at a LTC and seen both--difficult CNA's and LPN's. One thing I have learnt in life is that : 1.) in order to get respect you must respect others 2.) if you want to give orders you must be able to receive them 3.) just because you are the nurse and cleaning a "diaper" is not your job, DO IT ANYWAY IF YOU HAVE TIME 4.) ppl will use the race card regardless of their own skincolor-- ignorance and racism are color blind! 5.) CNA's often "seem to" have a chip on their shoulder, but how do I know why? maybe they feel like they are not respected? are mad for not going back to school? don't care? care too much? One wise instructor told me once to lead by example. respect other--and demand respect back. Help others, and demand help from others in return. etc. I know I "haven't been in your shoes yet", and there are always the ppl who will not return all you give to them--but being the nurse makes you their supervisor--you went through alot to get there. do not let them get away with disrespect even once, and respectfully warn them about overstepping.

anyone considering going back to school to become an RN?
hey mhull , are you in J'ville by any chance?? :) i'm an LPN student @ CCCC right now, and will start bridge in Jan 06. I'll graduate in May and once i --hopefully--pass the NCLEX-PN, one step closer to my goals. :balloons: i decided to continue right away, so school is still in my blood--and i have been told by many nurses that it is hard to get back into the school routine. well, good luck to you--and if you are here @ CCCC, stop by and say "hello". I'm the PN club/class president :w00t:

Freeloading Classmates....GRRR!
i had 2 "friends" like that. not only did i tutor them to pass the entrance exam, A&P, and Chem, but the "rescue" me b.s while i'm sitting up all night writing/studying and "you want what again" ??? really :flamesonb fires me up... one of them is in my class now--and i blew up a few month ago, since she was so incredibly mean and rude to me in front of classmates---she calls herself being funny... i just stopped being someones "fat-geeky-homework-and book-carrying friend-to the ditzy-cheerleader-type". :angryfire but ya know---my classmates actually thought I was the one in the wrong, because "poor...." ---whatever. slackers unite and do your own stupid work! just feels really bad to be used. ...and with my luck i end up with that type on my 1st job....:chair:

Jacksonville here and have a question...
Thanks for your reply. :) I'll be an LPN in May, and it's really sad that this town is so "sorry" when it comes to paying ppl. i know of someone making $9.00 as an LPN at a Dr office...?! you can make $16 in a LTC and $18 in Wilmington. I'll try Craven regional-- i know other hospitals hire lpn's, just now this town. :angryfire

Scared to be an LPN.....
First off, I believe everyone(!) is scared-to-death fresh out of school/ taking their first job, so don't be so hard on yourself!:) I'm sure you will be trained for a while--and Meds is what you primarily do as an LPN in LTC. I got myself a great drug book: Springhouse Nurses Guide 2005 (Lippicott; $36) It will all come back to you and you will be ok--just never stop learning! get your books back out, and read up on stuff you "misplaced" somewhere in your brain... All that stuff is still there Congrats on your job!!! you ARE the ! :balloons:
