  1. I'm putting together our slide show and chose "Dream Big"....the song is perfect.
  2. We graduate in June too and we just lost a few that were only a few points away. I feel horrible for them...especially with being so close to being finished.
  3. Jeesh....Talk about the clinical instructor making a mountain out of a mole hill! Seriously! Did you endanger a patient? No. Did you endanger your co-workers? No. Why couldn't your clinical instructor just talk to you about it? Would a school fail a student for getting a needle stick while on the job? For that matter....would a hospital fire an employee for sticking themselves? Everybody makes mistakes.....it's unfortunate that your clinical instructor didn't take the time to educate you in a constructive manner rather than sending you to talk to the director. It's also unfortunate that the tattler couldn't of backed up her "caring" by leaving it at just talking to you. She demonstrated caring for your well being when she talked to you but then,in my opinion, when she went to your clinical instructor she just wanted to point out your mistake and sugar coated it with "I'm just concerned for her safety". Stand up and brush yourself off....nobody is perfect and every one of us has made what others may call a stupid mistake at one time or another. Hang in there!
  4. No he did not........ sit playing with an empty saline flush syringe during a lab and shoot our clinical instructor, who was up front teaching, square between the eyes with the cap! :stone
  5. I have classmates with tatz and as long as they are covered up, it isn't a problem. Like the other posters said, wear long sleeves and you should be just fine.
  6. I was on the alternate list for my ADN program I'm in now. At first, I was number 13 on the list....then I moved up to number 5....and on the day of orientation I was number 1. I found out I got in about 2 weeks before the quarter started. Lots of people decide not to start for one reason or another, be patient and best of luck to you! :)
  7. No she did not have her stethescope slip off her neck and fall in the patient's commode full of poop! (Yep! :uhoh21: )
  8. Awesome! I shared this with my class because I think it's so helpful and great! Thanks again!
  9. Thanks Guys! ? I absolutley love the "Pump Your Blood Song"! In fact, since I'm such a nerd, I might buy some St Joseph ASA and send in for the free "Heart Hits" CD!
  10. "That whole "feeling bad for them" thing is a guilt trip. It is a perfectly healthy response to feel angry when someone is trying to manipulate you. Ignoring it doesn't do you or them any favors. Be courageous... Speak your truth... simply, calmly, without apology or agenda." Great advice. :)
  11. I'd say it could just be that particular nurse. I find they are all different on what they will allow you to do. We now have clear guidelines on paper that say what we students are capable of doing, so there is no confusion. I've handed it to a few nurses and found it seems to help. I'm in my MedSurg rotation right now and we do total patient care on 2 patients at a time. Most of the nurses on the floor know this and are MORE than happy to see us doing it. I know it's frustrating but get used to working nurses who aren't exactly open to having a student. Eventually you'll get paired with the ones who are wonderful and it'll more than make up for it.
  12. I have a big cardiac exam coming up and even though most of the anatomy is review, I'm still having a hard time remembering blood flow through the heart and various structures. Any one have any nifty tricks for this or sayings?
  13. So, SO true! I guess that's where I get upset, people asking me for things they could have done themselves but didn't do, then saying something like "I had to work" and expecting me to feel bad for them because I must have all this free time on my hands between taking care of my family and school! :stone
  14. Yeah, I usually get the "I have to WORK today!" :uhoh21: Well you know what? I'd kill to be in my early 20's again and not have a husband and family to also take care of while I go to school. Since I don't work, I'm looked at like I have it sooooooo easy. I've even gotten attitude because I've had to duck out of study sessions early so I can go to the grocery store, get something to make for dinner, run my kids to their sports and go home and make dinner. Then when I don't want to sit on the phone at 9:00 at night and go over homework that I all ready finished hours ago, I'm told "well I had to WORK!". What the heck does she think I was doing all day? At the spa doing my homework while the kids had the car and drove themselves to all their after school stuff?! :angryfire
