Duke Spring 2016 ABSN

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi all!

I'm applying to Duke for the Spring 2016 ABSN cohort as well as other universities. I have done a lot of research on Duke and acceptance, but I was wondering if I could ask an opinion of any of the current Duke ABSN students or Duke alumni.

My question is, I know that letters of recommendation are weighted heavily, but how much extra weight does it hold if I have a letter of recommendation from a Duke faculty member? I'd rather not disclose who exactly, but it's a faculty member of Duke's school of medicine. Obviously, it won't hurt to have this letter, but I was wondering if Duke will see this as just another good letter of rec, or if they will see this as more since it's from "one of their own"?

Thanks for any feedback, it is all appreciated! :)

@mizsard23 - I was just accepted to Spring '16 and plan on attending! I will also be coming from San Francisco and have never been to Raleigh/Durham! We should sync up! I don't plan on attending Duke Days, but will def tune in to the online sessions once they are posted.

Good luck to everyone who is wait listed! Fingers crossed for you guys :)

Cheers,

Lisa

alix, I moved to SF from NYC, great city :)

lisa, where did you end up taking your prereqs?

all, i'd like to be respectful to the board so please feel free to contact me offline if anyone wants to chat/meet up prior to duke days. I can't PM yet, but my screen name is my gmail.

looking forward to meeting everyone!

best,

sarah

I wonder if we can find out what number we are on the wait list.

@mbs213 there is very little info provided about the waitlist. Nora usually says she can't tell you about ranking but will update you if your decision changes via email.

I hope each and everyone one of us who is on the waitlist gets in.

Nothing like the waiting game. :p

Hi Everybody!

Does anybody know how many students get accepted each year out of how many applications? I remember seeing something about that somewhere, but I lost the place. If you can provide the link to the information, that would be awesome!!

BTW, I got accepted to Duke ABSN program. :)

@ Beckerz I'm not sure how many applied this year but I believe about 140 were accepted? there's varying stats on the acceptance rate.

If anyone who was accepted this year is local I would love some insight! Coming from NYC and new to the area, will be attending Friday Duke Days and would be happy to meet some friendly faces :) Congrats to the others accepted and hang in there wait-listers!

Hi again everyone!!

I was accepted to Duke's Spring 2016 ABSN cohort!! Ahhh!! I am beyond excited!!

Anyone else accepted or wait listed? Good luck to all!

Hi AllieW!!

Congratulations on getting accepted!! I will be at Duke Days on Friday as well and I would love to meet you in person! I'm a local (I live in Raleigh) and would love to answer any questions you may have.

Don't be a stranger!

Last comment I swear.

I attended the online webinar a few months ago and the statistics are about 64 ish get accepted and 300-400 apply to each term. Hope that clears things up!

Hi Sunshine!

That would great thank you! I would love to get the perspective of a local. If you can PM me so we can respect the rest of the people on the forum and perhaps chat one to one. Looking forward to meeting next week! :) my email is alixrwilder@gmail is the PM doesn't work please feel free to reach out.

Speaking for those of us on the waitlist who are still very interested in Duke, I'd love to hear about the Duke Days experience from those who attended. What were the most and least appealing parts of the program? Any big surprises that you weren't expecting? What was the ultimate impression that you left with, and are you excited to be attending Duke?

Any insight y'all could provide is great - would love to hear about the program. Thanks, guys!
