  1. We don't really need the sign. We already know what it is, but I don't think the nurses know what a "break room" is.
  2. @sientwolves: I am using the amplified stethoscope that is connected with my cochlear implant, and so far it is working great for me. Have you looked into viscope visual stethoscope? Here is the flyer I found on http://www.cardionics.com: http://www.cardionics.com/pdfs/New%20PDFs/ViScope%20Flyer.pdf I have not looked into it very much, but I hope you can research a bit about different types of stethoscope that is available out there for the deaf or HOH. I probably will do more research myself. I would like to have a backup stethoscope in case my cochlear implant fails one day (hopefully not!).
  3. Oh, that is so cool! I am in the program now with several different interpreters. The faculty here is amazing and is willing to help me to become a successful nurse.
  4. Hello! I am a soon-to-be nursing student at Duke University. I am deaf with one cochlear implant on my left ear. Can somebody elaborate on about making phone calls in the workplace? Do nurses tend to make/receive phone calls often? I can speak and hear relatively well, but I use an interpreter relay service (Sorenson) for phone calls at home. It saves my time from asking the person on phone to repeat several times. :) Anybody knows any articles, etc, about deaf nurses I can read to get some insights to what it is like to work as a deaf nurse?
  5. Can you go and get me some Borax? For the patient? Oh no, it is not for the patient! I found some ants and I need Borax to get rid of them!
  6. The ABSN program does not show all schedules for the whole program. Can anyone tell us how long the breaks in between semesters are in general? Will all clinical hours be completed during each semester or will it be possible to have to complete the hours during the breaks?
  7. DSON has a list of scholarship searches you can check into: Scholarship Searches | Duke School of Nursing
  8. Thanks for the info.
  9. Hello! I am pretty sure I already posted but I got accepted to Duke for Spring 2016 Cohort! I was wait-listed the first time I applied to Duke, and didn't think I would be accepted when I applied again! I went to Duke Days on Aug 3rd. I definitely am excited about Duke now. Of course, like somebody on here already said, the biggest concern about Duke is the cost. What is our graduation date? I know it would be in May 2017, but which day? Some scholarships ask for specific graduation date. So, anybody knows?
  10. Hi Everybody! Does anybody know how many students get accepted each year out of how many applications? I remember seeing something about that somewhere, but I lost the place. If you can provide the link to the information, that would be awesome!! BTW, I got accepted to Duke ABSN program. :)
  11. Hi guys! I am on the wait list for Fall 2015 cohort. I want to go ahead and apply for Spring 2016. Anybody is also reapplying for Spring 2016? What is the easiest way to transfer information from the old application to the new one?
  12. Congrats to those who got accepted! I am on waitlist. How long do you stay on waitlist?
  13. Thanks. I am on hold.
  14. Hey! Where do I check whether I got accepted or not? Is it via application site?
  15. For those like me who are wondering if Duke will combine the grades from all schools and if the GPA will be rounded, I got the response to an email from Duke SON: "Thank you for your interest in the Duke School of Nursing. When the GPA's are calculated we do not round up. It is a cumulative GPA from all schools attended. Hope this helps. Have a great day!"
