A 71 year old was raped by another reaident who had a history of sexual charges. Just wondering if it was normal not to do background checks.

In my state we do not do background checks on residents. I have worked for several corporations over the years and none of them have.

On residents? No, I have never heard of that.

Yes, ours does. Certain felonies and sexual crime convictions are an automatic decline.

10 years of LTC experience and I've never heard of that, too. But I've thought it should be done. But then what would we do with the people who didn't pass?
We have had declined sexual offenders who are registered and serious felonies like murder, body harm. There has to be a line somewhere. Of course, my population isn't entirely old gerenic but youngersort.

Don't forget psych admissions.
God only knows that's like the Black Mark of Death.
One a resident comes to us, we have a heck of time finding them placement.

Geez, I'd never have thought that LTC facilities would do backgrounds on their residents! But, after that horrible assult on another resident, it sounds like the facility should be in big trouble for NOT doing one. The 71 year-old's lawyer is probably having a field day

We actuslly tale alot of hard core MI and addicts. We just sort of draw hte line at baby rapists, killers and serious bodily harm folks.
Do we need to apoligize for that?

I've worked in many faciliites. In 3/4 of them we did background checks on a prospective resident. We usually only checked the sex offender registry.
