Hello, I am from Cincinnati, Ohio and every Nursing School in this area has at least an 18 month waiting list. Can anyone give me some names of schools who don't have waiting lists? I am looking for anywhere in the us. Also looking for universities where I can finish my BSN? Are other major cities facing the same problem?
Chicago has a few CC that have no waiting lists. Truman College picks their students by lottery. The prereqs include:
"One year of high school algebra, one year of high school chemistry, one year of high school biology, or one semester each of the college equivalent of Chemistry 100/121 and Math 99 (formally Math 112) with a grade of B or better within the last 5 years or testing above the level of Math 112 on the College Placement Test (COMPASS). Eligibility to take Biology 226 (may require taking Biology 121). Science courses cannot be over five years old."
(Quoted from Truman's website http://www.trumancollege.cc/academics/displayprogram.php?ProgramID=239&DeptNo=33)
The entrance exam is just a reading comprehension test (fairly simple if you have taken Eng 101)
Malcolm X College's prereqs are the same except they pick their students based on academics and how many Gen. Ed. classes you have completed. If you have any questions let me know...
Arkansas. We have several nursing programs with no wait. Entrance would be ranked by GPA.
Also, contrary to the stereotypical comments that are sometimes made about Arkansas, it is a great place to live and work. It is a beautiful state with a very reasonable cost of living. We also have two of the top 12 hospitals in the nation: Univ of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Note: there are more programs without waitlists, but the ones on this website have requested to be listed.
Hey, I too, was working on pre-req's in OH and found out that I would have approximately a year and half wait (although some could get in early at my former school based on good grades). What did I do? I looked at Pittsburgh. It's relatively close to Ohio, and full of nursing schools! The schools I looked at in the city don't do the waiting list thing, but take applications and offer entrance exams, basing their decisions off of those. I got into a school out here immediately, start nursing school next month, and don't even have to pay for it since I agreed to work for a hospital in the chain that owns the school for two years. If you want more information, feel free to ask.
I am going to a community college in North Texas. We don't have a waiting list, but our entrance into the program depends on your grades. If you have all As and a couple of Bs, you are pretty much in. PM me if you have any questions.
My CC was like that as well. They said you had to have 2.5 GPA to get in but realistically if you don't have a 3.0 you probably won't make it. The higher the better. This was Prince George's Community College.
I am already a nurse but I work with a MA who is getting her online degree through Rio Salado College out of Tempe, AZ. Clinicals are done here in Colorado but she had to get the facilities approved. I don't know much about the details but with all this waiting it seems like this country should expand online opportunities.
