No jobs in florida for new grads

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone. I am getting increasingly frustrated because I have been looking for a graduate nurse position since October. I graduated in December and passed the NCLEX last week. I have been on two interviews with no luck. I feel like the interviews go amazing but then I hear that it has been filled with someone else. I work for a hospital for 4 years and I thought that would give me a toe in the door. Florida hospital does not have anything on their website for GN's and Orlando Health has one. When I called about it they said that they have someone for the position and they are just waiting for them to apply. This is ridiculous. Why did I go to nursing school to have such a problem with finding a job? I am starting to look into nursing homes which is a complete 360 on the area I would really like to work which is postpartum. I haven spoken to all the managers of floors for the hospital I currently work for and my manager said they arent taking any new GN's in the pool. What am I suppose to do??

And does anyone know the starting salary in the orlando area for GN's??

Thanks for letting me vent.....

I applied to every hospital and its mother. lol. But I talked to the nurse educator on the unit I did practicum on, she talked to the nurse manager who met with me that day and then emailed the recruiter who called me... long story short I got an interview and job offer about a week later. Citrus memorial hospital in inverness is hiring, they have some CCU/PCU positions available. Call and talk to the recruiter there and she'll direct you. There is not really any "new grad" program, but they hire right into ICU's and stuff, and are super helpful. Cus its a bit farther out than most metropolitan areas and smaller, I think they have a bit of a harder time staffing. Plus I dont know many people who applied. I went this week and got another job offer on the spot... There's also health central, health first, baycare in tampa, etc. Best thing to do though is talk to PEOPLE. Don't just be an anonymous resume!

As for the poster who moved to tx... kudos to you! I feel the opposite. LIke I'm getting all these interviews and job offers in orlando but I really want to move outta state =( I'm so sick of it here!

I finally got an offer somewhere I like...IM TAKING IT....it really matters who u know and how u contact ppl. NEVER LET THEM FORGET U!!!

Oh boy, I wish I could get a call tomorrow about a job. I am bankrupt! LORD PLEASE HELP ME, I AM FRUSTRATED!!!!:grn::grn::grn::grn::grn::grn::grn::grn:

Oh my. Unfortunately I'm having the same horrible experience of not being able to land an interview and being rejected for lack of experience. I graduated in December and took my NCLEX (which I passed) exactly a month ago. My husband says it's too soom for me to start panicking since I've techniquely been looking for the past three weeks. However, it's SO frustrating to be rejected for lack of experience because I can't get it if I'm not given a chance. I guess hospitals aren't able to spend the additional funds to train new grads because of...that's right, the economy. I feel like I'm on a timeline and I'm falling behind. I need to get my year experience in med-surg to get to ICU and get my year experience there so I can be eligible for the master's program I'm interested in. I'd like to be done with my education requirements soon so I can dedicate my time to work and my family, whom I've already sacrificed so much time with. My kindergartener will be applying to college by the time I'm done at the rate things are going. :crying2:

No job yet...I got a call from PSA healthcare but many people are discouraging me from working with them. For one the pay is very cheap for per diem; it is 19/h and the other thing is I heard that sometimes they want you to do housework, hell no!!!! I will speak to the lady on monday to find out what is really going on :crying2:;);)

19/hr is too low for a new grad in FL. imo

I have a friend who lives in the area and she says that the VA is hiring.

I know 19/h is low and I am going to ask again for wage per hour and if it is 19/h I do not think I am going to take it. This is ridiculous and people just set out to use new grads because they have no experience:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Florida Hopsital Orlando Cardiovascular institute is hiring GN's. Go to www.indeed.com and type in graduate nurse and Orlando Florida. The posting states that it will only be taking applications until 4/26 so hurry.

Good Luck
