NHS warns nurse immigration rules 'harm patient safety' - BBC News

Shots have been fired. I don't see our employer trust there (BSUH), but hopefully this is significant enough to positively influence the way COS are being allocated for all NHS trusts that have shortages.

Im quite bothered with delays in UK since there is only 20,000 CoS allotted per year and that is distributed in different hospitals regardless its NHS or private ones.

Ad of now the new immigration rules that affects nurses is, we must reached the salary of least 35,000 pounds per year so we can apply for permanent residency and citizenship after 5-6 years. That is one of the requirement to obtain that migration status. However, the dilemma is the 35k salary per year (from a single employer, not included the part time jobs) is for nurses under salary grade band of 7 and above. If ever you can not reach that salary grade of 35k, you need to leave UK and go back home.

I would like to know what does your employer told you about these rules. Are there any solutions offered aside from the legislative amendments that are being pursued by some nursing officials in UK which seems to be uncertain.

hello guys... how would i know if my application is already on the assessment stage? NMC already received all the documents that needs to be submitted by post.. how long will i have to wait for any feedback?

thanks...

Hello ms_cog86, you will have to email them for a confirmation that you were already put to queue. It would take days or even weeks for them to reply :-)

Hello! after the nmc has received your file, it takes 10 to 15 days (holidays, weekends not included) for it to be put on queue. From there, you can send an email to the NMC enquiry to ask the actual date your application is put on queue. From that date, you wait for 40 to 70 days before you can receive any feedback. Again on counting those days, weekends and holidays not included.

hi xhiwari! where did you hear that news? we've also heard that the next tentative date is october 1st, but we haven't received any update yet. we are hoping we'll be part of the next batch and the date will no longer be moved. we were told last june that we'd leave on august 7th, but it was moved to october 1st.

A friend of mine who's also for Kings College told me that. I do hope it won't get postponed again. Omanfil told us that we will be flying sometime in October but they haven't given us the exact date yet.

Hello ms_cog86, I was put to queue on the very same day they received all my documents. You can also call them but I have dealt with NMC for a long long long time so I always opt for a black and white confirmation and I don't trust their agents as they as clueless as me hahaha! But yes, I've got to admit, they are getting better now.

At first I thought if a trust signed the letter then they're prioritized with CoS, I was wrong. Walter was the one who assessed me on the practicals when his team visited last April. As seen on the video, 168 nurses were recruited, only 12 got sponsorship certificates. This is frustrating. SMH.

I'm for Addenbrooke's and this article is making me very sad. :( What do they mean they could not recruit overseas nurses?

@xhiwari

The Home office has implemented a stricter rules on visa application for foreign nurses which is making it hard for the NHS to hire nurses from abroad. It has been said that hundreds of application has been offered for nurses overseas specifically India and Philippines but it has been turned away. That's why rather than hire abroad, they resort on hiring nurses who are trained from EU countries. There has been further budget cuts for the health care system, thus, it'll be more practical hiring EU nurses because they do not need a visa to come here in the UK (perks of being part of the EU). It is very unfair but that's what is happening here in the UK.

Let's pray it'll change. God is good.
