  1. I passed my resit!!!! All the pingponging of emails and mails with NMC to satisfy them with regards to my Egypt documents are all behind me now!! 24 months in the making, from the old scheme to new rules!!! tip: They cannot fail you for being too cautious like putting alcogel and donning gloves when removing an unsoiled dressing. Yes, in the video she didn't use gloves but you as a newly qualified nurse should think to always protect yourself. Say it aloud! Practise! Practise! Do your own dialogues/monologue and memorise them! It helps as it's very anxious being tested in person!!!
  2. Hello everyone, for those who sat on their skills second time with regards to IM, is it from an ampule or vial? Thanks!!
  3. It was Monday and I was the first one in to have my BLS assessed. It took him at least 8-10 minutes to restart and restart the sensor under the rescus mannequin so I was just standing there in front watching him. Apparently, I kept in touch with a co-candidate and he also partially failed with being too slow on his chest compressions- suspicious eh? I will be resitting mine in 2 weeks time and hopefully would get this time right and for sure I will never sit the osce on an early Monday ever again! A simple tip, if you're going to book your OSCE, try booking on a midweek and avoid Mondays and Saturdays because they can get a bit grumpy on those days. Hahahaha!!
  4. Hello, how long does it take to check in pearson vue if you've passed? I'm checking on behalf of my friend.
  5. I got my results in today, I partially failed. Apparently, I'm too fast to allow chest recoil that will not sustain life they say. How could one be possibly be faster in the rate of 100-120 beats per minutes?
  6. I sat my OSCE yesterday, it was my first take. I had to stay at Sunley the night before because I'm from south of Manchester. I must say it was the most tiring 3 hours I've had in a long while which explains why I slept a solid 12 hours afterwards. The people here were right, it was basic nursing skills, but how would you perform well without getting anxious when you know it's £1000 down the drain? and not the mention the examiner/s looking at you, and not to mention the pressure you'd get from the people expecting you'd pass because 1. they believe so much in you 2. they don't really know how hard it is or 3. both. You will tend to over-analyse what you just did and I am still doing it at the moment, but what's done is done. All I know is I did my very best and if it happens that my surgical ICU nurse experience specialising in open heart surgeries like cabg and valve repairs is not good enough.. then I'm going to re-sit the osce. I'm so full of positivity in me that I won't dwell so much in it, I have waited 2.5 years for my DL-from old scheme to new rules. I flew once back to Cairo to get my certificates and also flew once back to Manila to get some more papers that they were (additionally) asking. I know there are lots of people who would rather be in my position right now that's why I'm still thankful. Remember: do not wipe the bottom trolley! the assessor has told you that it has been cleaned with soap and water within 24 hours. Do not wipe it! Watch the NILE video and you'll see that after she's cleaned the whole trolley with soap and water, she only wiped the top shelf. Do not wipe the bottom! Do not assume that bottom trolley is dirty because you didn't disinfect it, it's been cleaned-end of.
  7. Hello, I know exactly how it feels, but wallowing isn't going to do any good. If only I could (and have time! I'm taking my osce in 9 days time!), I would write a novel on how extremely difficult it was. It took me 2 years to get my DL, from the old rules to new scheme. Cheer up! You will get there soon!!
  8. Hello, Is there anybody here who will be taking the OSCE in October or soon that would like to meet up for revision? I'm based in south of Manchester. Any help would be highly appreciated!! [email protected]
  9. After almost 2 years since I started my NMC application, I got my DL last week!!! Patience is indeed a virtue!! I've got a dilemma though, I don't have my original registration certificates from Egypt (worked there for 2 years) as this was kept by my employer and refuses to give me the original, and I do believe that the original is necessary during Identity checks.
  10. Hello everyone! I would like to ask help from you guys if one could send me how a Certificate of Good Standing should look like. I'm still having problems with my NMC application as they are asking for the said certificate from the Ministry of Health in Egypt (where I worked). If anyone could send me their certificate, it would be a huge help. I'm already toying the idea of flying to Egypt to personally get this document from them. Thanks very much.
  11. Hello annabananaRN, I would suggest that you should choose a flat that's very near your work place. Buses here mostly runs every 30 minutes during 'work' hours and then an hour after. You can opt to learn to drive but as you know it's right hand driving here, I'm from the Philippines and still find myself confused sometimes. Rightmove is a good website for getting an idea how much the rent would be (they call it TO LET here). Good luck!
  12. OMG! It took them almost a month to let you know that you'll need additional documents. Did they email you or call you? Or did you just happen to call NMC for an update?
  13. @072bomi, do you mind me asking what additional documents did they ask for? Like most of us here, NMC really does test your patience. Hang in there!!
  14. Hello 072bomi! Would you mind me asking if you're from the old scheme? As 6 months of waiting for DL is a bit lengthy for the new scheme. I started with the old scheme last year around June but encountered problems with my registration verification abroad (didn't meet the deadline) hence I started anew for the new scheme and passed the CBT last May. I agree that practising in the hospital setting would be very beneficial for the OSCE. I hope you'll get your DL soon!
  15. Hello melcahussey, I'm based in the UK as well but I'm not a citizen yet. I will be starting working on Monday as HCA in a hospital after being unemployed for almost 1.5 years waiting for my NMC application to come through. I have been revising my fundamentals with Dr. ****** lectures online and I find him really extensive with the basics. I do have the Merriman but it's still on its amazon packaging hehe! Good luck!
