Hi everyone! I'm currently in the process of applying to NJCU's accelerated nursing program. Any current students or alumni have advice?
Anyone else out there applying to NJCU? Or any other accelerated programs in the NY/NJ area?
This is the email that I just got from NJCU....
Dear Applicant,
Your application is currently being reviewed by a Member of the Nursing Department Admission Committee. Due to the high volume of applications for the Jersey City campus, there has been an unexpected delay with finalizing the admission decisions. An approximate date decisions will be finalized is unavailable at this time. Please refrain from emailing and/or contacting the office by phone to determine the status of your application. All applicants will receive an admission decision notification through NursingCAS email correspondence immediately following the final selection.
If there are any questions regarding your application, you will receive an email via NursingCAS correspondence.
Thank you again for your continued patience during this very busy time.
Good Luck!
Nursing Department Admission Committee
Hello,
This is my first official post here. My name is parkerTub. I applied for NJCU's Accelerated Nursing program for 2017. I have been trying to post on here for a while but had login issues.
Major: Social Science
Minor: Psychology
I too still have not heard back about admittance either. Been waiting for the mail to hear back for weeks. I was about to call but thankfully there's active people on here who already called to see when we should be notified, so I just wanted to say a big thank you for that!
I wanted to write on here to share my story of what I went through just to take the HESI test with NJCU and Prometric in case any students of future NJCU Accelerated programs needs guidance for that.
So for that test, I needed extra time for the test since back in college I was part of the Office of Specialized Services where I got extra time on tests for my learning disability. I receive double time for tests but some people get time and half extra. To get the extra time for the HESI test, I thought you signed up for the test on Prometric's website (the testing center) first, and then you call Prometric to request for it since that is what it says on their page if you need accommodations. So signed up for the test on Feb. 28.
Apparently Prometric gave me such a hard time just giving me the accommodations and gave me wild goose chase on how get the process going for testing accommodations. I had my IEP and other documents all ready to give Prometric. I called Prometric's customer service, first told me to call admission and NJCU's Office of Specialized Services. They couldn't help me cause the HESI test is separate from NJCU and is taken care of by Elsevier and Prometric. I called Prometric complaining on giving me the wrong directions. The customer service on both ends have not been clear on the steps to receive extended time for a test that is not even taken at NJCU.
After calling so many times (by the way I called a week in advance to schedule for testing accommodations), I got the contact email for the administrator for accommodations on Feb. 24 and emailed her. I didn't hear back from the administrator until Feb. 27 which was so late. By then she tells me I was supposed to apply for Accommodations by submitting a form 6 months ahead of my test date! No where on their website during February and prior to February did it say that. Then she told me that for the test date I had already set up couldn't even be modified after paying around $114 for the test. She also told me if I wanted to take the test with extra time 2 weeks later, I have to pay another $100! This irritated me so much because of how disorganized Elsevier and Prometric are for scheduling tests for accommodations and they were forcing me to pay more money even though they made this such a hassle for me.
What irritated me more, was that a representative from Prometric emailed me Feb. 28 on my test date and tried to persuade me to take the test without accommodations. She said, "Unfortunately, the exam that is already in place for today will not be able to be schedule or rescheduled with accommodations at this point. We want to encourage you to take the exam today that is already in place so that there are no additional cancellation/rescheduling fee that would be owed." I was pressured and did not know what to do. So I took the test without extra time 4 hours straight. I did not finish the test and I had a computer error at Prometric Testing center in Fair Lawn, NJ. My computer froze during my test taking. It was such a horrible experience. Thankfully I performed well on the sections I did finish on my test which I scored above 80% with the 4 sections combined minus the 1 section. The only section I did not finish was grammar.
I told the NJCU Nursing Program Assistant all that happened to me that testing day, and what a blessing she was. She even agreed this whole process was confusing. She used the technical error I had at the testing center and appealed on my behalf to Prometric to receive 1.5 hours extra so I can come to the testing center a second time to finish my test. Originally I was supposed to get 8 hours testing time because I get double time and double time of 4 hours is 8. So she appealed for me, I got the 1.5 hours approved by Prometric, and the Nursing Program Assistant even got Prometric to not charge me money for coming in to finish this test a second time (I could not afford to pay more money for this since my family does not have much money). I am so thankful she fixed this problem and I got to finish my test. I passed all 5 sections that NJCU required on the HESU and my cumulative score was 84.40%.
So for Future Students who need to take the HESI with Extra Time for Testing Accomodations, follow these steps:
1. Log on to your evolve account on Elsevier.
2. Click on Hesi Student Access.
3. Click on Distance Testing.
4. Click on Accommodation Request.
-A form will download titled, "Request for Distance Testing Accommodation"
5. Fill out the form and submit the form 6 months ahead of time.
6. Once that happens, Elsevier will send an email link for you to upload your documentation proving you have a learning disability. This is where you upload you IEP and other documentation from college's disability services office.
7. Elsevier will contact Prometric that they approved your testing accommodations. Then you call Prometric at 1-800-967-1139 to schedule a HESI testing date where they can give you extended time for tests. See the webpage here:
Arrange Testing Accommodations
*I hope this helps a future NJCU student applying for testing accommodations for the HESI test. So sorry for the long post!

I am freaking out too! I just wish it was more organized. When you give out a deadline at first, then change the date, then don't tell people when you are behind then it makes things scary. I feel so bad that they have to get all these calls but we are not wrong for it. In any case if there is a notification they should email us or post it in their website or facebook etc.
