NJCU ABSN 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I'm currently in the process of applying to NJCU's accelerated nursing program. Any current students or alumni have advice?

Anyone else out there applying to NJCU? Or any other accelerated programs in the NY/NJ area?

I just called the nursing department today and they said due to a high volume of applicants, we should be expecting a decision by the end of April. I also did not receive an email from NJCU saying they have received my application.

I did not receive a confirmation email, however, I was in communication with the nursing department regarding CLEP scores and during that exchange I was told that my application was received and complete and that if any further info was needed I would get an email from nursing CAS. At some point I signed up to receive emails from NJCU and every time one comes in to my email I freak out thinking it is a decision regarding my application!!:nailbiting: Its going to be a long month of waiting....

What's everyone's backgrounds and reason for choosing nursing? May as well kill some time and get to know each other, hopefully we will all be spending a lot of time together over the next year.

My Bachelors is in English Literature. Have worked in administration/education over the years as well as raising 3 kids(19,17,14). Always wanted to pursue nursing but kept putting it off over the years. Finally committed and hoping to start a program this fall. Applied to NJCU and Caldwell, if don't get into either have to take 2 more pre-reqs over the summer and will apply to a few other programs.

Hi eoshea! I think it's a great idea. I am going crazy ANYTIME I get an email notification :D

I graduated with a Business Management degree and worked four years in a corporate office. I left that position last Spring and took the missing pre-reqs (AP I & II, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, and then Nutrition and Lifespan Development, which other programs require).

When I was in school the first time, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. By the time I wanted to declare Nursing, I thought I was too late (and didn't want to spend more than four years in college) so I declared Business. I assumed a generalized degree would be easy to find a job. I enjoyed working in management, but it wasn't my passion. I've been so nervous leaving a job I liked to chase this dream, but I think the fulfillment will be worth it!

I'm SUPER SUPER nervous for the e-mail because I'm really afraid I won't get in. Anyone else afraid at the fact that they have a lot of applicants this year so it might be more competitive? I don't know if that's true but I'm worried that might be the case.

ANYWAY, I'm a recent grad of Stony Brook University. I graduated Spring 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science concentrating in Informatics. I took this past Fall and Spring to take prereqs and I applied to NJCU and NYU and maybe Rutgers if I don't get into NJCU. I thought of nursing back in college, but my school was ridiculously hard and basically weeded me out. After graduating, I thought I wanted to do Healthcare Informatics and actually got into a grad program for it, but I realized after an internship related to that career that I wanted to do nursing because I'm more communicative and interpersonal rather than in front of a computer all day.

I wish everyone luck and I hope I get to see y'all at orientation. Praying for all of us :nailbiting:

Thanks for sharing! I am very nervous I wont get in either. jazminjfuertes, I think your degree in health sciences would be a plus on your application. My lack of healthcare experience or a prior science degree is my biggest weakness.

kerri_lynn, making these drastic changes in life takes a lot of courage and even just committing to such a big step is rewarding in itself. Good luck!

Hi! I applied to jersey city campus. It's good to know Im not alone in the anxious waiting game. Is there a fb group for jersey city campus? it seems the notification timeline keeps getting pushed back.

Has anyone (Jersey City applicants) heard anything yet? Tried calling them yesterday but seems the office was closed. This waiting game is killing me. Tired of checking my email every hour for nothing.

Hey Curious90!

I got the standard email from the school this Monday saying that my application is complete and that at this point in time they cannot determine when final decisions will be made. The last sentence makes reference to not calling the school for updates since all announcements will be sent via NursingCAS. I've definitely been guilty of this! Whoops! Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Hey dvl36,

Did you email the school to receive that email or they just sent it on their own? It's freaking me out that I haven't received any emails from them at least verifying my application was received since I submitted everything! I verified with Nursing CAS that if my application was verified and submitted then the school definitely received it...but I just wish I got some confirmation from them that they actually have it!

Hey lws626!

I had pretty much given up on receiving any sort of email directly from NJCU, but they surprised me and sent something Monday at around 6pm. Originally (around 2-3 weeks ago), I had emailed someone from the nursing department hoping to get some sort of confirmation that they had received my application. They didn't confirm anything, unfortunately. My advice to you is to not freak out. As long as your application was sent prior to the deadline, transcripts verified, HESI scores sent, references sent then you should be fine and I'm pretty sure they have your application. Considering that the pool of applicants is much larger than other years (from what I hear) it's possible that they haven't reviewed your app yet. Best of luck and I hope you get some sort of notification within the next few days!

Ahh okay, thank you for the info! Best of luck to you as well!

I received th email from NJCU and it Said they did not have a set deadline for notifying people of admittance. I while ago I spoke to someone in the nursing department and they said due to the high volume of applicants they were a bit behind in starting the review process. I head decisions would probably be sent out mid-April, definitely freaking out!
