I am happily retired. I did my fair share--42+ years in nursing, most in NICU. So why did I pre-order the new Merenstein & Gardner's newest edition. It came today. It is so pretty, I'm nearly drooling on it. I have to go buy hi-lighters....

Somebody!!! HELP!!!

:sarcastic: :cat:  :)

I have the newest core curriculum...do you feel I should also get this book? I'm a new grad NICU nurse, and I still haven't really had a chance to get through the core curriculum book.

I really would like to know where can I find Neonatal Lab values..I know it varies from place to place...but would love a basic guideline to let me know when I should be concerned and inform the NNPs

Yes! I wanted the new edition and I noticed that it was released a little early

I think lab values would vary from unit to unit, so check your hospital unit guidelines

That book looks seriously comprehensive. Do you all find it very informative to read?

Umm, OP you seem bored, I have a few papers you could write and a few book you can highlight for me, any interest? :D

@Annie--awww, Gee, so sweet of you! I'm going to be too busy reading and hi-lighting this new book I have, won't be able to do your work! Can't tell you how sad I am about that. :arghh:

@Tinkerbell--I'm a big fan of Merenstein, I've got every edition. I like the way stuff is explained. Whenever I had a kid that baffled me, I usually could find help in there. So, my answer is YES!! (I've got every edition because I've been around forever. :roflmao: )

@bcandy--I don't think norms really change that much. If you're unsure if something is a "call someone" value, ask your preceptor, or another senior nurse. Write info like this on an index card and keep it in your pocket. Pretty soon you won't need it. If you already bought Core Curriculum, I don't think you should spend more money on M&G. Work w/that for a while, ask someone to give you M&G for Christmas. You could maybe borrow someone else's to peruse and see if you like it.

I have all the newest editions of all the books. I don't highlight, though. I'm studying for my neonatal CNS certification exam. :woot:

Hi! I have the 7th edition and am a new grad NICU nurse. I start orientation in a few weeks and have had the book for months but haven't opened it...I don't know where to start! Any pointers? Certain chapters I should read before hand or anything like that? I saw you said you have every edition...are there a lot of changes? Is it worth it for me to purchase the 8th edition?? I haven't looked at the 7th yet! LOL

Just bought mine!!
