To Filter or Not to Filter

our unit has been having a lot of problems lately with our lipids reading occlusion. :uhoh21: we still filter our lipids, but i am curious as to how many other units still do?:rolleyes:

We only filter TPN in our unit. Lipids are not filtered at all.

We don't filter IL...they are plugged into the line below the filter.

We filter TPN and and medications, expect any blood product, Ampho B, or Sando. We NEVER filter lipids.

I have never filtered lipids in 12 years of nursing. You are supposed to hook up the lipids distal to the TPN filter.

At my current facility, we have our lipids mixed in with the TPN, and I prefer it that way.

Maybe you should print this post out and slip in under your clin specs door, ScammRNC. I have never seen lipids filtered.

well, i knew we were behind with some things here in the midwest:uhoh21:, but i didn't realize we seem to be the only ones filtering. good to know. thanks for everyones input.

Our lipids and TPN are mixed and we have a filter on it.

we don't filter lipids, either, just tpn. also, some nurses have said they get an occlusion reading when they use the .5cc tubing instead of the 2cc microtubing. try the 2cc tubing.
