Anybody have any info on the new program at WCU? It's a straight BSN program with no LVN or pre reqs needed.
Be careful! If a program is only provisionally accredited, then it means they haven't met the requirements for more rigorous accreditation. Any graduate from one of these fringe institutions may not have their education recognize by area employers, or more traditional (sic: reputable) institutions (ADN/BSN/MSN programs at real colleges/universities).
There is a reason that these kinds of school charge huge tuition. Generally, they spend their budgets on "marketing" and "administrative salaries" and aren't around long enough to have to worry about investing in things like quality faculty, building a reputation with hospitals and recruiters, or assisting their graduates in finding quality employment, so they can build an alumni base.
There have been some fly by night schools here in the Bay Area which have folded up over night, leaving their student with big loans, and nothing to show for it. Regardless of whatever name they are operating under, they all follow the same basic business plan:
Offer nursing programs with very low (or no) prerequisites. Recruit students who might not otherwise be able to get into nursing school. Charge them outrageous fees, and justify it with stories of their possible future earnings. Then after a few years, pack up, cash-out, and re-open under a different school (corporate) name.
There are no shortcuts to success. So long as there is a nursing shortage, there will allways be some new program trying to charge big fees in exchange for a piece of paper from a school no one has ever heard of. Don't be a sucker.
- 8 semesters @ $9500 each
- $75 registration
- $6265 books (approx)
- 8 clinicals @ $4250 each

I talked to them yesterday, for the BSN program its not 9500 per semester, its per term. They do ten week terms, so schedules are constantly changing. Thats how they get so many classes done in such a short period of time. That boils down to 950 dollars a WEEK!! holy cow.
The payments depend on how much financial aid you get so it will be different for everyone.
I didnt get any grants because this is my 2nd bachelors.
I only qualified for like 11,000 in stafford loans for the first year
So for the 1st and 2nd year I needed to come up with 30,000. I could either make payments of like 1500 a month for 20 months or get a school loan for 30,000.
So the third year is where the bulk of the money came from because of the clinicals etc.
So to me not worth it anymore.

It really helps lower the cost of tuition if you have taken those GE courses. I have taken almost all except the last 2 and it really reduced the cost of my program.
The first start date is November 10th.
The admission rep that I am working with said he should know by like September 3rd how they are going to work with the students that already have the GE done.
As of right now this is what he told me:
Since I have the 1st 2 classes completed I don't have any classes
If for instance I didn't have physio but I had oral communication then I would have class once a week...and so on.
So as of right now the people with their GE done just kinda have to sit around and wait for the rest of the class to catch up.
Hopefully they'll figure something out so we don't have to wait around. I guess I'll find out when I go for my financing appt.
I sure hope it's worth it because this is a lot of money :/
