Anybody have any info on the new program at WCU? It's a straight BSN program with no LVN or pre reqs needed.
hi everyone!
i am also a 'mature' student looking for direct track to rn. i've been waiting all summer to find out if i am accepted in the lvn program at lynwood adult school. now after reading these posts, i am wondering about the bsn at wcu. if anyone has info it would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like this program is way out of my reach financially. It is very frustrating looking at all of these options. I could go to a private university in another state. It is a two year program including prereqs and generals. And the cost is about 37,000. (for residents). I thought THAT was too much. OMG All I have to do is take the ACT test. Its nationwide test I already signed up for the next test on Sept 13. We'll see what happens. I called WCU and they haven't called back yet. Still haven't heard from Lynwood. But I don't think going the lvn-rn route is good for me cause I'd like to be able to travel. So many decisions..........
Well, with this program you'll have your Bachelors degree. There is another program you can look into for $ 42,000 for an Associates. Everest College has a brand new program in the Ontario office that just started in July, 2008. Their next group begins in January. You should give them a call :typing
I stopped in WCU today because it was on my way home from somewhere else...
The tuition isn't broken down per credit hour like a community or state college, it's a semester based tuition:
If you have transferrable prerequisites (credit for credit) you will knock off terms (10 weeks) or semesters (2 terms). The GE is grouped together with these classes per term (terms 1-6 below):
That means you have 60 weeks of GE before you hit a clinical and then then are 100 more weeks (or 10 more terms) of clinical following the GE. If you have any of the above prerequisites, you will have a different GE course of study according to what is left so you will have less terms or semesters to complete making your fee less than someone starting from scratch. They have it all planned out as far as scheduling students who have no GE/prereqs done, but are still working it out for "upper division" transfers because they didn't expect to have so many candidates with so much GE out of the way. Most of the interest is coming from those of us already sitting on waiting lists or working on BS requirements.
It was confirmed they are an NLN candidate school, ACICS accredited (national, not regional and no plans for it), and it was fully acknowledged that a graduate degree following the BSN from their school may be tough to get through CSU/UC system. The counselor indicated that CSUDH has refused graduates from the LVN-BSN program.
They plan to take 30 students every 20 weeks for a new class of potential graduates. First generic BSN group starts in November and second March-ish.
Hope that helps... I'm going to tuck it away for the future as a back up plan.

Unlikely that you will find a program that will pay half though if you a are very low income going into the program you may get n=more federal aid. This kind of program is not for everyone.
