U.S.A. California

Anybody have any info on the new program at WCU? It's a straight BSN program with no LVN or pre reqs needed.

Here's where they talk about accreditation. I felt sure I saw the CCNE accreditation physically on the wall so thats where I got that from.

What they are working on is being the biggest producer of RN's

What school did you go to that you regretted?

I'm not for or against WCU btw its just I wander up there everyday and eat in their breakroom =D

Ah, national accreditation, not regional. Regional accreditation directly transfers to CSU/UC programs while national accreditation doesn't. It can probably be done and has been done, but not without a challenge.

...But...!..... I just found this West Coast University under CCNE new applicants. Wow, now that is promising! So maybe you saw a provisional credential at the school.

I don't regret the school or education, I regret that my hard work doesn't transfer over to my current goals. I essentially had to start from square one. At almost 40 years old I don't have many more squares ahead of me to keep starting over. :chuckle

It shows them as being a full member here

Being a member of an organization is different than being accredited by an organization. They are not reciprocal status.

I talked to them and they couldn't give me a definitive answer on what the schedule was. They said it's 2-4 days a week and either 4-8 hours. The cost is $110,000. I forgot to get the start date (moron)!! There is the usual tests to take to enter the program also.

:smiley_abPlease give me your input on this new program.....how are you supposed to survive after graduating with a loan of $110 g's???

Are there programs that i don't know about that will pay at least half? i wouldn't be able to sleep!

You're not a moron-- you probably lost consciousness after hearing that figure! :sstrs:

I just typed like a page prior to this and it got deleted so im going to keep it simple!:banghead:

LVN-$30,000

LVN to RN $ 60,000

Total 90,000

Time approx. 3 yrs.

Degree - Associates

Bachelors- $110,000

Time- 3yrs. 3 months

Almost the same time and money for a degree above. The way I look at it is it takes money to make money! There is no way due to an added "monthly payment" that me and my son wont be in a better position down the road!! :wink2:

$110gs for a BSN!!! sheesh...I went to a private school, Mount St. Mary's in California and got my BSN and only came out with 20K in loans...I have never heard of WCU...is it a public school?

Oe avantage of option 1 though ( apart from being 9 months less which isn't long) is that after a year you have your LVN license and can earn some decent money while finishing off the rest. They also in both cases will help you get a CNA certification have 12 weeks in the program.

Though I'm not taking that exact route I do understand Ronnie's perspective. What good is an inexpensive cc program if you have to wait forever to get in earning nothing in my case or signifcantly less than what a nurse does.

But for everyone its a personal decision. in LA people have cars worth more than that.

Mount Saint Marys is not any cheaper. Its about 58K for the LVN-ADN bridge so you must have been lucky an got alot of grant money

I understand the "time" issue. What would my payment be like for $110 g's? Would I be able to manage a school loan for that amount and be able to purchase a home in CA?

Thats something you'd have to figure out for yourself as we don't know your situation. Whether you have a partner or other debt. Paying as much as you can as you go is the best option obviously even if it means keeping a tight purse while in school.
