Have y'all heard about the new TV show MTV is working on titled 'Nurse Nation'!? I don't have the quote from Entertainment Weekly, but it reads something like "a docuseries thay follows 9 young hard-partying travel nurses as they explore a new city for 13 weeks."
The premiere date has yet to be announced, but MTV has greenlit the show and others to replace the hole that Jersey Shore is leaving in their network. What are your thoughts? Excited to watch it or annoyed at how they may portray travel RNs?
I liked the show. It was fun to watch. Those nurses don't represent me. Only my behaviors and actions represent me. Anyone narrow minded enough to think that's an accurate representation of nurses and the profession is probably an idiot anyway and never would have understood the profession to begin with.
Nurses aren't portrayed accurately to the public anyhow. At Halloween it's about skimpy lingerie. Adult movies use nurses all the time. TV shows pretty much seem to make nurses either all about drama or making it sound like all we do is clean up poop or bow down to doctors. It would be hard to portray real nursing because I'm sure no two nursing jobs are the same. Even on the same unit we take different patients and have different experiences. We work different specialties and have different coworkers.
Let MTV show whatever they want. I'm just happy to know that I get to make a real difference sometimes doing something I love.
I forced myself to watch the first episode of Scrubbing In last night. I thought it was pretty bad, but in line perhaps with other scripted reality shows. The "plot" was overwhelmed by high maintenance nurse who wanted to practice IV starts. Great examples of poor professional judgement. From the preview of the next show, they will be back to focusing on love triangles.

Agreed!
I'm having a hard time imagining a show about doctors like that, complete with generous eyefuls of the female surgeon's rack, or airline pilots showing up for work just sober enough to avoid getting busted. MTV has lots of shows with varying degrees of "reality"... some are honest and respectful. I just find it insulting that they chose the trashiest format.
