Hello my fellow nclex takers,
I'm scared to fix a date for my re-test due to this new test plan, im using saunders 4th edition and i planned tesing by May, but would want some one who took nclex recently in April to share his/her experience.
I think this will help many of us who are anxious about this new plan.
This applies to those who have taken the test before and after April, pls tell the differences, hope the material we are using before the new changes are still valid.
share and be bless.
thank you !!
Hi,I just moved here from the UK and I took the new format in April as well and got 220 questions....I failed:hdvwl:. Its the 2nd attempt for me and was definitly harder than the first. I also got a lot of prioritization and delegation questions and very few drug calculations.
I used the Saunders book, read it from cover to cover. I am currently studying again- 3rd time lucky! lol! I am actually afraid to try again. This exam is quite daunting. Does anyone have any advice for me? I cant afford to fail again, its too humiliating.
Don't loose hope. we will make it. this exam is not easy. God will help us.

Think like a new grad and practice and practice questions and read the rationale, only study a subject if you are struggling to answer questions
I took the "new test plan" NCLEX on the 24th of this month. It was my first time taking the NCLEX, so I can't compare it for you. But I can assume that there was more management questions than there previously were on most people's tests. They told us in KAPLAN review that's where the change would take place, and the majority of my questions were this type.
And I passed!

Congratulations! You must be sooo happy. How did you study for it? Did the KAPLAN review class help? I'm thinking I may need to do this.

Thank you so much! Yes, I am very happy :)
I studied by doing all of the KAPLAN questions available. I didn't read the books cover-to-cover or anything, or watch the videos. I just practiced those questions and looked at the analysis of my practice tests. The areas on there that I had weaker scores in, or I just felt like I was weaker in, I went to the books to review.
KAPLAN helps some with strategy, but the strategy they teach(Decision Tree) doesn't always apply to every question. For the ones that it does though, it helps. The questions they provide are also very similar to the style and complexity of the questions you should get on the NCLEX if you're answering at a passing level. If you are looking for a review of content, this probably isn't what you're looking for. It will help you with content if you look it up in the books you get, and then when you read the rationales for the answer choices(It tells you why an answer was right or wrong), but the questions aren't just recall that you can keep doing and memorize. They are application and analysis.
However, if you are looking for a program to use, I would definitely recommend it. I think it's more important that you know how to answer the questions and have practice with what you'll see, rather than knowing a bunch of facts crammed into your head.
