Hello there,
I'm starting nursing school in January and wondered if anyone had a recommendation for good shoes/clogs for clinical placements?
Requirement is dark shoes - either black or navy blue.
I've heard a lot about danskos?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!

You will get a wide variety of answers here because everyone likes something different. Me, I swear by my Danskos. They offer the support and comfort that I need standing on my feet for hours at a time.
I will say they make a style now with memory foam as he insole and it's terrible. I had to replace those shoes within the year. My another Danskos lasted forever! I would also go to a store that sells them and try them on. They all fit just a little different so when I bought mine, I bought my right shoe from one box and my left shoe from another to get the right fit.

Head over to a Walking Company store if there is one close by, they'll analyze your step and determine a model of dansko or clog, with an insole that suits your particular step. I didn't know until a few days ago i have a prominent arch, and was recommended a danko with an insole that supported that arch. I've used nike's, and love my airman's, however cleaning them thoroughly is very difficult.

You have to go out and try different shoes. For me dansko don't fit well. I love new balance but only the ones made here the ones made over seas are not consistent

Are you allowed to wear clogs at your school? I know a lot of schools I've looked up don't allow clogs

I bought a pair of Crocs Specialists for clinicals and I couldn't be happier with them. They are inexpensive and you don't have to worry about them wearing out. Highly recommended. Just be aware that the sizes really run BIG, so order a smaller size than usual.

To be honest, I tried Danskos and they just did not work for me at all. Plus, I'm already 5'9" so they made me look like a giant. Right now I were standard tennis shoes with Spenco insoles (only $20 and work better than aetrex, super feet, etc.) https://www.spenco.com/product.aspx?prodid=42&catid=

I really like Allegria. They are just as pricey as danskos, but a little softer with regard to the leather and the insole. Not as high of a heel, either. I loved my danskos for work, rotated with some nikes and allegrias.

That's great that your program allows dark shoes. In my program we wore plain white shoes. I went through 3 pairs because they had to look immaculate at all times!
For clarification, as a nursing student in LVN school, I rotated between 2 pairs of danskos, an XP pro pair and a regular style. I wore them 3 days per week x 8 hours. They served me well for 12 months.
I continued to wear the same shoes through my 1st 2 terms of RN school. 8-10 hrs x 2-4 days per week.
My only complaint now is that they look awful! [emoji40][emoji29] but my feet and back don't suffer.

I like Danskos but there is a break in period. I think it is like 30 days. I would wear thick socks during the first thirty days. However, Alegria is super soft and cushy with their memory soles. I had an issue with rolling my ankle with the Danskos that people joked I was a danger. With the Alegria, the base of the shoes are more stable and flat however they are cushy. Downside is that they are leather and not patent like the Danskos are but I think you can get patent ones that you just wipe off if someone vomits/urinates/whatever on them.
I own a Paisley pair that is solid black but with an imprinted design. I wear them to interviews and they will be my clinical shoes for NP.
