Hi everyone!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)
I'm a new nurse got my license in February and landed a job as a school nurse.
I love it!!! Of course it has its ups and downs but enjoying it. I was thrown into the job with no training or where anything was so of course the first week was a little tough. I still have a lot of questions and concerns but most specifically on IMMUNIZATIONS in Texas. I do not have any idea what specific ones a child needs to enter PREK.....HELP!!!!
Where can i look or who can i contact or is there any classes or training on IMMUNIZATIONS?????
I'm in Texas too and also landed a school job right out of nursing school (BLESSED)! I pretty much stalk all of the sweet people on here for companionship and advice and to make myself feel like someone understands after a particularly stressful day. You are going to LOVE IT.
I am still lost in many things but hopefully this site is helpful and we can HELP each other
I'm working through the Vaccines For Children and You Call the Shots modules through the Center for Disease Control. The VFC program is specific government funding but even if you're not part of the program I think it's extremely helpful. The You Call the Shots stuff is exactly what you're looking for :) plus they're pretty quick!
Make friends with the registrar --- they shouldn't be allowing kids in without the needed vaccines... mine is AWESOME.. she will not enroll without the required.. she knows better than most once they are in, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get them compliant, especially when school admins are worried about warm bodies in seats and don't want you to exclude for anything.

There is also a sheet available that tells you how much time there is between doses. Called a "Catch-up Immunization Scheduled. That was so kindly given to me by a doctor when I kept sending a student for shots. haha
