new RN - income questions

Published

I'm a new registered nurse, and I'm browsing through different hospitals to work for.

Does magnet hospitals offer more pay?

What states in the US are currently offering more pay or have an increase rate?

How much does a new RN usually get paid for? Here in Michigan is only $16/hr, which I thought was quite low. But I'm not sure how does that compare to other states.

Thank you :)

I'm in CT and starting at 28.50 on orientation and 29.50 off. Another hospital I interviewed at in CT started at 31.43. But as others have mentioned, cost of living is a factor here.

32.28 for new grads in CA.........can I get a woop woop????

Lol woop woop how much is your cost of living??? Here in TN new grads are starting out in the $21-23/hr range. I'm getting $22, +4.50 after 3pm(I work nights btw), + 8$/hr for weekends. This kind of pay is pretty good in my city, it can get you an apartment on the river. Or a cozy house if you want one.

Geez, your shift differentials are awesome! I get around $2.50 extra for working nights, and $2 more on the weekend.

Anyone know pay rates in upstate NY? Specifically Rochester? (That's the area I will be looking into when I graduate)

I'm outside of philly and making 35.72 (as a new grad) as a base pay with 25% more per hour for night shift.

My girlfriend who moved to Mass was offered 90k. and a 10k signon/moving bonus
