I graduated with my A.S.N, I just passed my boards and i'm a registered nurse in Florida, YAY :)
I'm going to continue school for my B.S.N. through an online program,eventually...
I currently live in florida but i want to live in boston, so... My question is... How do I get a job in Boston as a ASN RN... I have questions about the whole process!! Should I move there and then pursue getting a job or get a job before. Should I get my license in Mass. before I look for a nursing job? HELP. I have put out many applications...

If you currently have a job, and don't have to move to Boston, I highly recommend staying put until you have a solid job offer. As an experienced nurse it took me 6 months to find another job. A new ASN RN I work with ( she is only per diem), has submitted over 200 applications without any luck yet. I am from Boston.

The job market here is very tight for any nurse. Also lots of the big name city hospitals are looking for BSN nurses. I agree, do not spend the money to move here (expensive in itself plus cost of living here is rediculous compared to FL) unless you have a written job offer. Good luck
I can't find a job here in florida. i'm sending out applications in boston, florida, everywhere... It's basically a decision of where i want to live and work on getting my bsn... i just really love boston and want to work at MGH burn unit ultimately
i have family in boston so money isn't an issue...

Im a new grad here in Mass with my BSN and the job market is really depressing here. I am most likely moving out of the state for this reason. As a nurse with your associates, your best bet would be a LTC facility or private care. You should definitely get your license here in MA and check your eligibility as well. We would all kill for a job at MGH, and even girls in my class who did clinicals there are not getting offers from them. I've applied to so many hospitals in New England, it's outrageous how poor the job market is here.

Hospitals in Boston require BSN for new grad applicants. There are hardly any new grad jobs at all here, even BSN new grads are having a tough time finding jobs. The ones who were hired at my hospital before I left started in January and had graduated the previous May.
You may have some luck if you apply to some of the smaller hospitals like Carney, St. E's, Arbour, etc. though since Steward took over, all the former Caritas hospitals are not good places to work. Otherwise, look outside the city or try LTC.
thanks for the info on the smaller hospitals, i will check them out. I'm gonna spend a month up there looking for a job... if nothing happens i'll move back to florida... but the job market down here is depressing as well!
If you only plan on giving yourself a month to find something, I'd stay put. It's not reasonable to expect to begin looking for a job and secure one within a month, even for an experienced nurse. As I said in my last post, the new grads who started on my floor just before I left started in JANUARY of 2012 and had graduated/been job searching since MAY of 2011.

I worked at MGH for over 5 years in a non-nursing role. Even though I knew many doctors, nurse managers, etc, I was not able to secure a position there when I graduated with my RN (ASN as well). Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but in general, it is pretty impossible to get a job in Boston as a new grad in 2012. Even with your BSN. I was told by a nurse manager at MGH that they have less than a 2% vacancy rate at any given time, so the chances of getting in are very slim. Don't get me wrong - I would love to work there again too - but I don't want you to waste your time and money putting all your eggs in one basket.
Get some experience anywhere you can find. Any experience will improve your chances rather than waiting around for a perfect nursing position. Most of the other nurses in my class work in LTC/SNF, rehab hospitals, or home care.
Good luck!
I got a second interview with MAXIM Healthcare services. Basically home health located out of newton,ma. I'm wondering what kind of agency this is and if I should run away or stick with it because it's the only place that has called me back for an interview.

I live in the Boston area with my BSN and graduated very high in my class. I looked for like 7-8 months before I got lucky and met a nurse manager at the hair salon !! Haha.. I have considered moving out of state bc it is so bad here I mean I sent out 90 applications and not a single call back !! And I have worked in several health care roles for like 7 years. I would def secure a job before you move here hoping to find something. Newton is really nice tho I used to work at Newton Wellesley hospital so I got some idea of the population. I think that home care here is like more places but I suggest looking up the company online. Hope this helps!
