Hello..
Long story short.. I got into an RN program at 24 (2 years) but exited out halfway and got my LPN license (it was in The Bronx and the directors/students were truly vile..I wish I had the strength to have just gone through to RN back then but it was wearing on my mental health).. I graduated in 2010.. LPN jobs weren't amazing at $17/hr so I went back to corporate America for less than half the stress making $28/hr..
I never used my LPN license.. it expired in 2013.
Fast forward to 2024.. I'm married (I was with my boyfriend-now husband- and childfree back in nursing school) and I've been dying to work for YEARS.. but got pigeon-holed into being a SAHM and stuck in a miserable city (NYC)..Toxic MIL enmeshment issues.. found out she's behind the scenes trying to sabotage a move out of here.. husband and I went through some traumatic stuff and it is all costing me my health now.. I'm tired of waiting.. I'd have moved out of here or called more shots had I had a career and not been stuck at home.
I'm not in a great position.. I'm now 39 with 3 children (ages 11, 9 and 5.. ).. Husband hasn't made it easy for me to get back to work.. He isn't paid to be on call but allows his job to gobble up all his time (he's in utilities) so there's ZERO consistency or even the ability for me to work around it and do weekend part-time works.. ALSO.. if I go back to work and need some overlapping childcare, he wants to pigeon-hole me into "Use my mom" as childcare.. I do not want her "free" childcare as it has cost me everything from almost my marriage to self worth, etc. She's a boundary stomper.
This lead me to looking into using my LPN license again.. Still kicking myself for not getting my RN back when I was child-free and had a LOT less stress and tons of time.. but grateful I at least have something..
If I go back to work I have to be able to offset the cost of childcare and I think nursing is about the only way to do that.. I cannot count on my husband to have any off days.. It dawned on me that the 7-3 positions may work well for me with kids being in school so I just need someone an hour in morning and hour in afternoon.. M-F.. If only there was a job like 8:30am-1:30pm M-F I wouldn't even have to worry much about childcare except sick days..
How can I even break back into the field? My situation is so weird because I never utilized this LPN license.. I'm hoping not all is lost..
I'd also love to get my RN but I don't know if that will be doable on my own with 3 kids also working full time as LPN.. I may just complete my Bachelor's Degree online (I need 33 credits to get a Bachelor's) and use that to apply to some kind of Masters program in health that can also be done online.. IDK.. If there were a part time LPN to RN program I may be able to manage it but first things first ..
What should I do as far as building a resume? How do I even build a resume off this and get hired?

I'd recommend starting with an LPN refresher course and plan from there
